does sifu cucumber practice DCA or nah?
*
Not sifu la bro, I'm just a small fry trying to get by, so yes I do DCA.

I've also withdrawn a portion of funds out when it starts dipping and will be allocating more cash/FD in my portfolio just in case.

thank you for sharing your analysis and sentiment

personally i have been actively trading crypto for past 2 years and hope i have gain a bit of immunity to intense short term fluctuations (i think)

Then you have nothing to worry about if you can handle such volatility. Bitcoin just went from $9k to $8k last night. Are you holding some for long term or just purely trading?

Tomorrow is going to drop again.

The Bear has finally arrived after 11 years. The shortest bear lasted 3 months, last bear lasted 1.5 years.

Plan accordingly.

Federal Reserve cuts rate to zero.

In a bold, emergency action to support the economy during the coronavirus pandemic, the Federal Reserve on Sunday announced it would cut its target interest rate to zero. The last time the Fed cut rates to zero was during the global financial crisis just over a decade ago.

In addition to rate cuts, the Fed also said it would purchase another $700 billion worth of Treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities.

As expected. Thursday pumped in $500Billion, Friday $1Trillion and now another $700Billion... they are going to run out of cash, how long can they keep doing this? I really dont know what to say...

StashAway didn't have/ removed the option for weekly DCA.

Now using this method to create a 'weekly' DCA automatically: -

Create 4 monthly auto deposit into the same portfolio.

Haha, that's pretty smart. Thanks for sharing!

Whats the best way to invest, lets say RM100K into SA? Im planning for aggressive 36% portfolio.
*
If I were you, DCA RM2k every week for one year.

*On a second thought, I think this is a really personal question that only you yourself can answer. It depends on so many factors, your net worth, your goal, your risk appetite, why choose 36%?

tak puas hati coz they hold so much gold.
*
Any reason to why you tak puas hati? IMHO, with the US government printing so much money, having gold is a very good thing. In fact, I was planning to invest more in gold & silver outside of SA. If you look back at 2008, after QE, gold shot up for several years. S&P500 on the other hand is looking very shaky now, we might have another leg down... it seemed to me like the "FED pump" is losing its steam (struggling to break the 0.618 retracement level). It is not as effective anymore for the past 2 to 3 weeks. Also many big time traders and investors have started to dump their stocks (Buffett for example). I think I would be more worried if SA don't allocate more to Gold and other things.

QUOTE(MNet @ Jun 27 2020, 05:11 PM)
If u have 100k, why not direct invest in us share or etf more low commission compare to SA?
*
For me, it's the convenience & safety because it's backed by SC, SA already figured out the allocation % for a well rounded portfolio, I don't need to mess around & waste my time on doing the allocation myself. I also wouldn't want to lum sum my 100k, SA makes it very easy for us to DCA a fixed amount. Besides 0.8% fees is not exactly high compare to other options imo. Our boys at SA gotta eat & put food on the table right, so I'm more than happy to support them, they are doing a great job. It's a win win. I would hate to see them going out of biz.

US shares I would have to buy from sites like IB or TDA, a bit troublesome la have to use Sg bank account, do instarem transfer & whatnot... I just don't feel safe putting a large amount on those sites, maybe I'll change my mind later down the road. I'd use them for trading & maybe hold a few stocks that I like.

If they want to offer BTC, they can do it as supplementary portfolio like Gold Portfolio in Wahed.
*
I dont mind if they split the gold & allocate a little bit into btc, we all know well btc performed over the past decade. Or maybe include it in a special portfolio like you said for ppl who are comfortable with crypto.

this only hear when BTC rise. If included since the crash on 2017, everyone will be cursing on why BTC in the portfolio.
Anyway, if want to buy BTC, can do so from 3 approved exchange by SC.

If they really listed BTC on stashaway, i will exit from SA due to BTC got no solid justification on why up and down.
*
https://dcabtc.com even if we start DCA at the highest peak of BTC of 2017, we would have made a positive return after 2 years. Gold performed poorly and dropped 40 to 50% from 2011 to 2016 too.

BTC is very volatile so you can't have too much in your portfolio, 0.5% to 2% makes sense. Anyway this is out of topic.

If I want to add a lump sum money into my Stashaway account, is it better to add that in gradually (increase my monthly/weekly DCA by RM X over X months)? Or is now a good time to a dump it all in at once?

For reference, my risk index is 36%.
*
The market is at all time high, a correction could come anytime from now. I personally would just DCA. I park my money in SA Simple and auto deduct from Simple account to my portfolio every week. Safe and simple.

I've started browsing a subreddit for personal finance in Europe and it's interesting to see the stark contrast of the attitude there.

Seems like there the mindset is DCA only if you have a short time period or limited funds.

If you have a long investment period and a lot of money, go lump sum if you believe your investment is good cos the market generally go up. Regardless if there is up or down, long run you'll still earn more from lump sum than DCA.
*
Not disagreeing with what you say, but DCA is a risk management strategy.

I've personally have experienced my stock portfolio dropping 30% because i got in the wrong time, I was inexperienced at that time... and it's a terrible feeling to have, feeling anxious all the time & couldn't sleep at night. I realized I'm no warren buffett, so for me I will never do that again unless I'm trading & have the ability to set auto cut loss. To each his own i guess. Some ppl can handle it some ppl can't.

I don't know what went wrong or it is normal: SAMY keep buying GLD for me, in both my risk 36% & 22%.
My GLD weigtage now is 16.47% for R36% and 19.66% for R22%. But SAMY keep buying GLD in my current weekly DCA...
Is Gold cheap now? Or SAMY see what we cannot see: the Gold price will sky rocket soon?
Perhaps my understanding of GLD in this etf is totally wrong.....
Puzzle puzzle puzzle

Gold is at the support price, correction should be almost done and will rebound soon. Gold rallied for 3 years after the 2008 market crash, if history repeats itself we should see Gold to continue to go up this year. I wouldn't worry about it.

How do you know the correction for gold is almost done?
*
The 200 day EMA has been acting as a strong support for the past 2 years. At one glance it seems the price is consolidating at this area and getting ready to retest $1960 for the third time.

But looking further at the weekly chart, it seems like it has formed a very nice Cup pattern and *if* it is forming the Handle now then it might go down to $1700+ range. IMO, it is a Bullish sign for Gold in terms of TA.
