Sorry newbie here, Im currently on a 12%risk portfolio. May I know why my equity portion of the portfolio are invested in Europe VGK

I thought the portfolio should invest in something that will bring return in the long term? but when I look into Europe VGK. Their 5 years returns is -6.83%.

https://etfdb.com/themes/vanguard-european-...der=desc&page=1
*
At 12% risk, the aim is not into high & fast growth sector with high return and volatility but rather into low volatility and still generate decent return.

Investing into VGK will spread the risk as the ETF is investing into Europe region consists on more than 1 countries.
Investing into IVV (S&P 500 Core ETF) will be heavily concentrated on US market (single country) as you had seen from the past months on how volatile S&P 500 was.

QUOTE(blur19755 @ Apr 23 2020, 11:48 PM)
did you follow closely on all the assets within your 26% portfolio?
s&p 500 is not your only asset within your portfolio, it goes up does not mean other asset are up too.
*
At 26%, the allocation into S&P 500 is rather high too: XLC (13%), XLY (18%), XLV (18%) and IVV (18%).
That makes up to 67% in S&P 500 and another 18% in IJR (Small Cap)

Gentlemen,
Good day to you.
New to this SA and am interested.

May I seek insights from taiko here.

1. How do we find the reference that BNM approves StashAway? Have been googling and could  not find it.
2. Acronym DCA. What is this?
3. Acronym SA. What is this?
*
1. StashAway is regulated under SC: https://ers.seccom.com.my/public/CompanyGen...LicenceID=36524

https://www.stashaway.my/faq/360012165714-i...haway-regulated

2. DCA is dollar-cost averaging

3. SA stands for StashAway and SAMY is StashAway Malaysia.

Haha. Nasib we haven’t Racun you into putting into 3 separate company. Haha. Rm100 Wahed,
Rm100 stash and rm100 FSM

But yeah. Just stick to SAMY first. haha.
*
Don't go into Wahed.
I just did a full withdrawal.
Somebody claimed that we're paying 16% premium for the 2 ETFs under very aggressive portfolio.

Point mistake you did is you follow whatever people said in this forum. Look no robo advisor are perfect. Let people decide by themselves la whether to invest or not.

SA MY in early days got people talk how fishy SA is. Got couple of people withdraw because of what other people “say”.
*
Yes, I'm a financial idiot compared to you who possess with superior knowledge.
If I'm not an idiot, I won't be participating in the forum and made investment mistakes.

I don't have ACCA, PhD in Finance nor certification in financial/wealth planning.
My education level is up to SPM.

True. Gotta do your own due diligence and researching before forking out hard earned money for investments.
*
If everything needs to do research, what is the point of even having robo advisors?
Just back to conventional investing and dump those AIs.
I thought robo-advisor investment is to simplify investment and eliminate human emotions with disciplined investment strategy (with DCA) and remove the need to even time the market.

True. But you withdrew from Wahed cuz somebody said something. Not related to the 2 factors; simplifying investments and DCA strategy for long term.

You actually follow what people say to go in or withdraw. Where's the DCA strategy with no emotion involved there?

All in all, it's our own money, if someone trusts that Wahed can generate their long term profit, go for it. Same goes for SAMY. Let's say after this someone withdraw all from SAMY because of something they said, will you follow suit?
*
I don't like Wahed at all as it doesn't transparency like SAMY.
I don't have visibility and correlation study of Wahed MY to US markets as it is purely driven by local demand in Bursa Malaysia.
I always wanted to withdraw from Wahed since months back.
At least with SAMY, I know where the underperformance comes from narrowed down to specific ETF.
The only thing with SAMY is to put back is the currency gain line. That'll make things perfect.

See. So you dont just invest and let it sit there. You actually research a bit and find out about the transparency issue. That's what I meant by doing your due diligence.

You knew SAMY is more transparent and reliable, so you stick with SAMY. As do us! biggrin.gif  rclxm9.gif

I did ask those questions in the thread but nobody cares to bother. Well since it's a upward straight line, who cares anyway!

the reason i am asking this question is because i always thought is ROBOT that does the investment so ROBOT will know how to react when they see a certain indicator in their system base on the algorithm / AI
so it should be able to mitigate heavy losses

This robo-advisor only does two things:

1. Re-balancing
2. Re-optimization

It's not as grand as you envisioned.
