Mostly now they overpriced. Last time i had a delicious one was in perak. I was stationed there for months. Got this warong run by indon. Better than wong solo and the price was rm6 per plate

Overrated and usually overprice. Then again, same can be said for our national dish - Nasi Lemak. I guess to each, their own when it comes to cuisine.

For last few years, the trend was to really smashed - penyet the chicken portion and slapped it with seller crafted-sambal consist of chillies, garlic and touch of lime juice and sugar.

Easily worth rm15~30,, varied by chicken portion.

A proper ayam penyet is the ayam kena rebus with all the ingredient yada before kena goreng b4 kena penyet.
Sadly local alot dont do that and people think ayam penyet as just ayam berempah that kena penyet with sambal.

Indeed. To start up with, the spices and look wasnt even the same. I hate nasi penyet, though, I do my research for some justice.

I at 1st thought they really penyet the ayam

Many wannabe seller dont do justice to many regional cuisine. Seeing they skimp certain ingredient, prep step or side dishes; only to follow up with stupid trend is a blasphemy to the origin.

Borderline innovative or lazy purist is a two different thing.

No. Ayam penyet were touchly smashed, after fried.

Even better when theyre smoldered with sambal giling right after. Thats how it work.
