I do motorsports video coverage & currently my 4yr old Acer i5 gets the job done but it takes quite sometime to render short FHD clips in premiere pro. Laptop solution is used to do onsite editing, other heavy editing is done at home on PC. I really think its time to get a replacement, been eyeing on some i7 GTX1050ti / GTX1060 solutions under 5k mark. Need one with medium to high color accuracy. Bulkiness is not an issue. Minimum 2x USB 3.0 ports need for media transfer, TB3 a bonus for future lah.

1. Dell G7 15 - with TB3?
2. Legion Y530 - portablility
3. Helios 300 - only one USB 3.0 port

I appreciate any editors that are using any of the above to give some feedback or even recommend me one..

can comment about G7, not worth for your job as the color not vibrant and seems dull for video editing.

based on experience bought it for my brother.

I suggest you to save a little bit and get dell xps 15.

Personally I am using acer vn7 from 2016. Just added SSD and it can handle mxf file from canon c300. So I still stick with it for now.

Look at Illigear , they have a thread here also . Laguna series (if you don't mind 2.7kg laptop machine which has a good battery life)

For 5k , you can get a i7 + 1060 (add a bit more say extra RM 500) you can get a 1070.

Also it has 100% sRGB as they claim , so pretty much it's what that you are looking for

If you want TB3 , then better fork out more.....

Viewed as overall system it meets and in many other areas (RAM, Storage, USB ports) exceeds other laptops + it's under budget.

Only trade off is 7th Gen CPU which remains competent (switching from 4 year old i5 Acer is an improvement by itself).

HP Global Warranty covers HP products at the level of standard warranty offered in the country in which it is used. For example, a product purchased in country "A" and moved to country "B" receives the current warranty coverage provided by country "B" (if that product is marketed or supported in country B).
Check out HP page, one of the key things to note is if the same laptop is sold here.

You'll have to pay taxes/duties etc from Customs. It would attract customs

So you might end up paying more ....

Went thru LYP today to buy storage and get a feel of some gear. Legion Y530 & Omen 15 feels more suited to my taste. Meanwhile i also found an online shop that offered an Omen 15 i7 / 8gb / 1tb / 1060 3gb for rm4.3k.. looks like a good deal, so i called them up for option upgrade of 8gb + 480gb kingston nvme, it only costs an additional rm590.

what do u guys think of this deal? a total sum of 4.9k for an Omen 15 / i7-8650H / 16GB / 480GB NVME / 1TB HDD / GTX1060 3GB
would immediately swap out the 1TB with a spare SSD i have laying around for better workflow

totally forgot about taxes.. sad.gif
