Hi Guys,

I would like to ask everyone's opinion before making the decision to purchase a handheld console.

I am basically deciding between a PS Vita, New Nintendo 3DS XL or a Nintendo Switch.

To be honest, I am not really a fan of Nintendo Switch because I know that it's a portable home console.

I already have a PS4 Pro at home and am looking for a handheld console to play when I am travelling (which is quite often) or not at home.

I have been doing research on PS Vita and the New Nintendo 3DS XL and both are actually very appealing to me.

I understand that the PS Vita has just been discontinued and if I buy it now, there might not be games anymore for it in the future.

However, I can still play a lo of the old games which I have not played before.

My question to you guys is which do you think I should buy? The 3DS XL or the PS Vita?

I believe the questions and information that you guys will help me make a more informed buying decision.

Thanks a lot guys!

Bro, u should read this https://www.lowyat.net/2019/179266/sony-off...ce-and-for-all/

And Nintendo is shifting all their effort to Nintendo Switch now, still wanna play 3DS?
in the end its all about which game u wanna play, and as far as i know, Switch are expanding lots of games as well as their own Nintendo game

Its more like which console have the game you want to play.
Like me I choose Vita because I want to play Project Diva. On the other hand 3DS only have Mirai. Also consider the fact that Vita can play PS1 games, 3DS can play previous nintendo handheld games.

Yeap, I've read that article before. That's why I'm still thinking on what Handheld Console to get. I'm leaning towards PS Vita but since they're discontinuing - I'm really not sure if I should get it or not.

Yeah, I agree on the selection of games. I am leaning towards PS Vita because I can play classical games that I used to play during the PS1 era. However, will the discontinuation affect this factor?

PSV is dead, unless you jailbreak it, it's not worth it, not to mention it's propriety super expensive memory card, I haven't touch mine for years... doh.gif

3DS also is slowly phasing out by Nintendo, once a while am still playing it, but once you're used to the NS's screen, there's no going back

Switch (NS) is the king of portability now, why not considering it?
Have you tried it? some of my friends are skeptical like you also, but once they borrowed mine during road trip, they're hooked and bought theirs

you can hook it up easily to the hotels' tv as well, get a supported usb-c - hdmi dongle if you don't want to bring the dock.
and it's more fun to share the joy, lots of the games are local multiplayer supported, easy to play with your friend on the go.

Alright, I might consider the Nintendo Switch then. Reason why I'm skeptical is because I just bought my PS4 Pro for around the same price.

I feel like getting a handheld console so it won't burst my budget and also I can play while on the road or in the plane.

Thanks for the advice though. I'll definitely research more on the Nintendo Switch.

Depends but most likely 2nd hand price will increase as well 3DS. I still have my PSP though, alternate switch when I go out. I only play Vita at home, PSP can emulate most console as well plus its cheaper if its ever got stolen while I'm out. Vita can use micro sd card if you jailbreak it, buy 256GB micro sd card then you'll set. I'm still searching for a 3DS as well biggrin.gif

I'll need to see which fits my budget. I really do love the games in PS Vita however, the memory cards are expensive. You're searching for the new 3DS XL as well?

I understand the hesitation on purchasing the switch given the price is higher than the PS4 Pro and the games (BotW, Mario Odyssey) are expensive after 2yrs into release is still at their launch prices respectively. Nintendo is indeed much more expensive compared to the PS, but those are comparison of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

If we were to compare the Vita / 3DS to a switch, it's kinda obvious which one will be a wiser choice. Please do not purchase the older consoles, you'll only regret it ... i assure you.

We're talking (720P 60FPS handheld /1080P docked), local multiplayer without having to purchase another separate controller, Good lineup of games coming this year, XBOX game pass incoming and the list goes on...

Thanks for the advice man. Appreciate it! I'll look into my budget because getting a Switch is kinda beyond what I can afford at the moment. But I guess getting a Switch is kinda the obvious choice for a handheld console if I have the money.

your decision should be based on what games you want to play.

I have both Switch and PS4 Slim...mostly play my Switch nowadays....one of the best feature of the Switch is you can pause and put to sleep mode anytime...all your game resume from exactly where you left off. It can last for weeks in standby mode from full charge. I have left my Switch one time pause, forgot, and fly off to Penang. Came back few days later still can continue my game. Lol.

Anyway, just wait for the new Switch hardware revision annoucnement, confirmed there will be a cheaper switch with less gadgets...maybe no joycon and dock.

Since you have a ps4 pro, i'd reccomend getting a vita provided you have a strong internet connection wherever you go. I assume you realise that i'm referring to the remote play feature. In that way, you can play your newer ps4 games that don't exist for the vita on-the-go. And as you've pointed out, it's also an excellent emulator in which you can play most games from ps1, ps2, ps3 to even psp games on the vita. All in all, i think that it's a great device for your situation since you're already in the playstation ecosystem. Not to mention, the prices are at an all time low now and my guess is that it's bound to rise.

tumpang thread, since I am more to 2d platform games. which would be a better choice, and for ns, if I want to play online with others, would I need to pay for subscription fees? as I confuse when some games stated free to play online, thank you
