Hi is Malaysian EPF a safe investment? Worried with corruption, weakening of economy… just a concerned citizen
*
if EPF collapse, MYR will collapse.
question is, if you are worried about EPF, what have you done with your MYR?

i think they don't really dare also, or they stupid enough to try.
like other said, those high roller > 1mil, those eligible to withdraw for investment, house loan, everyone will withdraw as much as possible.
end up still same amount in epf laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

edit: i think the amount in epf will be lesser in general.

even for my age i still dont know how to use money
dont know is a big word so let me go into detail
1. should i change my car since it is so old and lack of the safety feature yet my old car still usable and hardly give me any problem so until now i never change my car
2. should i renovate my house toilet so it is wheel chair accessible but i am still no on wheel chair and should i continue to wait
3. should i book a Europe trip for my family instead of just travelling within Asia but i yet to explore all of Asia
just 3 simple example saja.. there are more
see i keep finding excuse for myself not to spend money or spend less money
nobody can help me

I think you focused too much about the thing itself like everyone else, just diff spectrum.
its all about what you want then.

1. do you like your car, do you keep complaining your car? for me, of course its good to drive the latest car but i have yet to achieve my retirement numbers, it give me more peace to know i'm working on my future than driving the latest car? safety? there is alway such argument and always a safer car, until what point you need to stop thinking? when you get a tank? for me, safety is more about myself and my driving, everything else is good to have.

2. its not much money, so depends on your feel, mau do now, or later?

3. depends on what you mau and your family. i told my wife, i have no aspiration in life to travel to europe. got then got, no then no. I rather go to thailand.

so...think about what you want, life is simple.
no need do becoz everyone is doing the same thing.

like people told me, with my salary, i could get a what what what car, better, more stylish, more "safe".
i was like bro, you might be happy while you are driving this this car.
but i'm like i'm happy even when i sleep, knowing i can afford the car with cash if i want to.
and i still look back and smile at my 14 years old puny city after all these years.

Wow!. 👏Papa gives 100k into kids self contribution quota. Kids got free papa money.
Kids self contributions quota full. Kids can put self earned and saved money else where.
Good daddy. 👍

i think it will be good. thinking of doing something similar but still got 5 years before my first is 14 years old.
initially thinking by 14, give them 100k each (that's it), by the time they retire, it will be a good safety net for them.
so their career, lesser thing to worry and can do what they interested in more.
they are both girls anyway.

but then again, with my capability (one lump sum might not make it) and isaraan topup from gov.
i might do a staggered one till just give them a headstart, the thought is only 100k each but it could all change.

Ha ha ha, good preference. 👍
But, just but, ... why hv to wait till age 14 to start giving them a good safety net?
Can start now with just 10% (10k) at btc and the balance 90k in sspn.
90k in Sspn can still earn abt 3.5- 4% pa for 4 years.
BTC can if bad bad crashed 50%, still hv 5k balance from original 10k. But, just But, If it rally...huat huat har.
Ha ha ha. If I only knew how it will surely go. Ha ha

Yeah I know but those are still technically my money. Since I can handle and manipulate it. I’m doing some of it.
When it come to epf. It’s more clear cut. It’s their money. I can’t touch it lol.
They do have their own money which is only their angpow money which I just put in fd due to current rate.

I do have some stocks for the older one. Mainly Malaysian bank stock but again. The feel is the same as I said earlier in my reply 😄

Let me tell you what my wife did.

During early working years where our wages were small but things were cheaper then. My wife would put aside RM100 each month for every child and then we have more example bonuses or extra we would inject it into their savings. Even now when they are grown up , the practice/ habit still continues.
*
I understand. We are doing similar stuff. One way or the other. But this is more on the epf side. Which my wife don’t really agree with me I would say. But I can always do my part.

But she’s a better investor than me. 😄

Did she elaborate further with reasons why she doesn't agree with you?

the good thing is... you have 5 years to change her mind or you change your mind...  icon_idea.gif

No la. I can do my part. She can do her part. Differently. Haha. Diversify ma.

Various reasons la. Preference. Result. Capabilities. Like I said. She’s the better investor. Her investment track record definitely better than epf. Without the need to lockdown like epf until old age.

So we can use diff strategy. It’s okay. biggrin.gif.
