My baby is on 30% formula and 70% breastmilk. When he was fully breastfed, he poop once only every 7 days. Doctors said it's normal.
After changing to mixed with formula he poops like once every 5 days.
But the rest of the days, he always grunt, squeeze/curve himself like he has difficulty pushing poop. His poop has always been mushy like after-rain mud, and color like mustard sauce or sometimes a bit greenish. But it's never hard.

So, is he constipated? I told doctor but she always ask back how's the texture. When I told them it's like mud/paste, then they said ok.

But little precious is frequently pushing and pushing until his face red.

Is he constipated or not? My friend told me babies should poop every day?

What can I do to make him poop more frequently? Because when he poops every 5 days, he seems like always in pain for day 1 to 4. By day 5, he poops like stock clearance. So much that they leak everywhere.

As for my diet, I have stay away from dairy products and other gassy food in case breast milk is causing this. Had done tummy massage and cycling leg exercise on him, but no result.

He's newborn, so cannot potty train yet.

breast feeding like what u mentioned, few days only poop once, if ur baby's poop r not hard type should be ok, if bb discomfort they will cry, if he is not crying meaning bb is ok. My boy and my bother's boy n girl last time the same, 4-7 days only poop once. Monitor ur bb's poop texture and colour.

My wife tried to avoid spicy, fried, dairies, processed, overnight n etc... foods

Now my boy 26 mo, breastfeeding and rice for lunch and dinner, 2-3 days poop once, been feeding him bananas, grapes and papayas. Poop texture soft n brownish and greenish in colour

He's crying. We can see he's trying to poop but no poop comes out. Only the smell.

When finally poop comes on 5th day, it's not hard but mushy. So I don't know if this is constipated or not.

I checked with our dr about that, they said its normal, we too a bit skeptical about it but since son seems ok so we treat it as normal.

My boy will eat less after two days of no poo poo, after poo poo will eat alot. Poo poo texture wise ok. Continue to feed him water and fruits.

Try to feed ur bb water right after milk see any changes

Same here. After he poop, he wants milk all the time.
We tried to feed some water in between feeding, just a few sip.

Breast milk is more than 80% water, especially the first milk that comes with each feed. Therefore, whenever the mother feels her baby is thirsty she can breastfeed him or her. This will satisfy the bay’s thirst, and continue to protect the baby from infections, and help the baby to continue to grow well. Babies do not need water before they are 6 months old, even in a hot climate. This is one of the reasons that WHO recommends for children to be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of life.

Yes, he seems to increase pooping frequency now. We follow pedi's recommendation to give little water like half to 1 oz. The last one he pooped once in 2 days. We were so happy to see his poop. rclxms.gif
