Just wondering if there's any Vacheron Constantin enthusiasts here? I couldn't find any thread on it. Feel free to share here too.

I just bought the new FiftySix Day Date PowerReserve about a week ago. I was deciding between this or the A.Lange Saxonia Small seconds, it was difficult choice as the Lange boutique managed to source the blue dial which is now discontinued. But I'd like my watch to be a bit more practical and much prefer to have a power reserve indicator. I may perhaps get a Lange in future when funds permits.
Vacheron has never been on my radar despite being invited to a few VC events in the past. But it peaked my interest, when I was invited and introduced the FiftySix line at the VC launch party late last year. Of all 3 models I was immediately drawn to the DayDate but held back from purchasing (I don't like to buy on impulse). I like how it's not overly dressy, fresh, inconspicuous and understated. I do like the Date only version as well especially the newly 'blue note' that was announced at SIHH recently. I guess VC has done the job in moving me away from Rolex lol. Also there's no AD games on waiting lists, mark ups etc etc.

Anyway...after trying on various models and options available from VC and Lange, it is done.

There are plenty of boxes with a box, and other collaterals i.e manuals, pin, hang tags, card holder, etc.

user posted image

It comes in the new shiny piano finished box which I much preferred. Inside you have an option to either display one or two watches which is handy.

Here's the watch. May not be everyone's cup of tea but I love it! Pictures doesn't do it justice and needs to be tried on the wrist. I can't stop staring at the dial and how it indices reflects the surrounding lights.

user posted image

You could see the boxed type sapphire crystal.

user posted image

It was really generous of VC to give a box of red packets during CNY.

user posted image

and some close ups

user posted image

The hand is nicely polished and rounded off on the Date hand.

user posted image

And of course the back.
Unlike the simpler Automatic date, this uses VC's in-house caliber 2475 SC/2 with an updated skeletonised 22k rotor.

user posted image

the attention to detail and finishing is immaculate, definitely worthy of the Poinçon de Genève.

That's it for now as the forum wouldn't allow me to post more photos. whistling.gif

Between the 2, I would've gone for the Lange, but it's a personal thing as I typically prefer clean dials over busy ones.

Plus I feel Lange as a brand carries more panache over VC - again, personal thing.

Regardless, congratulations and wear it in good health smile.gif

Many thanks! I was so close to purchasing the Lange but perhaps next time. My missus says it looks too similar to a Daniel Wellington from afar lol... hmm.gif vmad.gif

I like how VC's leather strap has a cut away for easy access to the spring bar. Simple solution but so effective.

sweat.gif It's actually on the website. Also I've looked, Msia has probably the best price in comparison to other countries. Maybe due to import tax.
We always get shafted in the UK.

Thanks for looking.

Since then, I've acquired a VC Montblanc pen to go with it. As far as I know these are pretty rare

I'd like to know too how much discounts one could get in KL.
I didn't purchase mine in Malaysia but I would presume that is perhaps the best place to some good deals?

Kelvw LOL I knew I recognized you from the fashion forum since you usually post there rather than the timepiece section.

Also, you've certainly caught my attention by having a very rare VC thread in a sea of Oris/Omega/Tudor/Rolex/etc. threads on the lowyat forum. I'd usually see this kind of thread in the malaysian watch forum tongue.gif

Did you recently get into watches? I ask this because VC/Lange is not a watch brand that most people would acknowledge unless you've seen a few others. All I can say is that it is a downward spiral for the wallet sad.gif

Anywho, beautiful purchase on the VC 56D/D, the Maltese cross on the rotor in the exhibition caseback is by far one of the best rotor designs I've seen on many a watch. Of course, Lange is equally respectable but to be frank, I would only touch the 1815 or Richard Lange series as the saxonia strays too close to our friend Daniel Wellington.

Lowkey, my favorite watches ever are the 1815 Tourbillion fron Lange and Patek 5131R or 5231 that I will probably never get to see IRL.

Additionally, I am very interested to know where you got the VC Mont Blanc pen. As a fan of writing instruments myself, I always like to see these unique pieces.

Meaples Apologies for the late response, I've been away and busy at work lately.
Thanks for looking through the thread and I agree that there aren't many VCs around. The more I get into VC and understand more of it, the more I love it!!
I'm also on the Malaysian watch forum although I haven't been visiting or posting as often. Maybe I should.

I did recently get into watches about 3 years ago, well when I had my first 'proper' watch then. I always like watches but never really spend much on one as I was keen on guitars and shoes. I still am smile.gif but my funds has shifted into watches now. I am still contemplating if I should get another 56 blue dial or VC Overseas. unsure.gif

Still loving the DayDate

That’s actually affordable. Cheaper than a Daytona. But I heard the VC servicing is quite expensive compared to Patek Philippe.

I don't think the Daytona is worth the current asking price which has gone stupidly high. I'm out of the Rolex race now tongue.gif

My DayDate would be about £1000 to service as it's classified as complication movement cry.gif

The “stupidly high” prices started more than 2 decades ago with the introduction of the caliber 4030 (zenith). Since then, Daytona’s have always been trading at a price premium over their supposed MSRP, which is too low imho. I don’t see that going away anytime soon.

Ditto for PP Aquanaut and Nautilus which are trading well above retail for years now. Aquanaut in steel is almost touching USD$40k now for a tropical strap version. Nautilus costs even more. But at least the servicing is affordable at around USD$950 and still relatively affordable for their vintage watch restoration charges.

Your watch is still new. Wait till it is considered classic (20 years and above) then you will be slapped with more than 4 times the price you see now. I heard VC charged USD$2190 for servicing of a simple 3 hand watch from the 90s and USD$3100 onwards for simple complications.

Indeed, they rarely come up for sale and only given out when you purchase a VC.
However you can sometimes find them on ebay for around £1000 - £1500 (RM5300 - RM7900)

Nice, can’t go wrong with VC watches too. Though I’m in a waiting list on a certain watch brand, but VC watches r also a connoisseurs watch.

Do take a look on breguet watches too if you like it’s history, though the value may not hold in the short term but breguet watches are also in pp founders collection.

But if u buy VC watches, then my hats off to ya, normally it’s a collector’s watch. Rolex is like an entry luxury watch at this point brows.gif

Edit: aim for a perpetual calendar watch, u sure get addicted one brows.gif

For Mont Blanc, I have limited editions but my favorite is the normal soft tip miesterstuck

Thanks. I do like that VC is not that commonly worn or seen. Even perhaps not that known to the casual enthusiast.
I also like Breguet and Urban Jurgensen too especially their guilloche dials, they are lovely. I do like complication watches but then I have to also think about servicing cost. The last I checked to service a VC perpetual calendar is about £2000 (RM 10,600). I dread if anything needs replacing at the same time.

I did purchase another VC earlier on this year, a Traditionnelle Boutique edition. I wanted a simpler dial with manual movement and of course the guilloche dial biggrin.gif

I'm not much of a Montblanc collector, I just have a few I like but not specifically collecting them. They are lovely pens though but I don't write enough lol

Edit: I love the video that Watchfinder put up comparing the 3 brands 'PP, VC & Lange'. I could fully appreciate the amount of work that goes into these timepieces. Also it really shows VC's guilloche dial wub.gif

Here's mine, rocking it with jeans lol. No new pictures yet, this was taken when I was purchasing it.

Hmm complications... if ur into niche stuff there’s uwerk too.
A lange&sohne is also up there in my to get list if u like German stuff. (Not sure if value holds here in Malaysia)

You don’t have to worry on the servicing as it will last at least a few years, unless u drop it. Even Rolex which is known to b hardy needs servicing from time to time. (If u can afford such a watch, servicing would b the last thing on ur mind lol, but worst part about servicing is waiting, have a watch under the servicing waiting list for half a year)

Love watchfinder vids, in Malaysia normally its Rolex or pp which is more well known, I also have a girard 1945, a must get if ur into square types and have big wrists.

For Mont Blanc, after collecting for so long, I often use the miesterstuck for signature only.. LEL n the ink doesn’t dry fast on certain papers. Good ol fashion smudge. (You’ll love soft tips in comparison to the standard “m” if u do signature a lot)

Uwerk is bit over complicated for me haha. I'm preferring dressier watches these days, nothing too loud. I love Lange, in fact I was going to get the Lange Saxonia and Up Down but I went with VCs in the end twice! LOL. Perhaps maybe for the third watch? My heart still yearns for the VC American 1921 but I'll wait up for its 100th Anniversary next year. I bet VC will have something special and most likely way out of my budget 'again'. I tend not to think about value when getting a VC watch or when watch shopping for Lange, it will definitely not hold but I'm not selling them so it doesn't matter really. I still have my Rolex so that's still ok.

I've been advised by VC to service complicated watch approx every 3 -4 years, and simpler movements every 5 years. I'm not too worried about servicing times but I know it's pretty quick as my boutique has a VC watchmaker on site. She's really good and knows what she's doing. If you're ever in London, do drop by their boutique and the team is fantastic to their clients. Over this lockdown, they sent me a surprise gift to say 'hi and keeping safe. Mighty nice to them to do so.

The GP 1945 is nice! Shame that GP is underappreciated as they have some nice pieces. Unfortunately, my wrist is pretty small so my choices are quite limited hence I preferred dressier watches. I can't even pull off the Overseas 3, it does well a little bit too big for me.

Do share your MB collection, would love to see a nice collection of pens. I use a wacom pen more these days lol.

Lol, u live in Britain? Didn’t know that, for Mont Blanc I’ll post one of my collections, this in particular is Hadrian edition.

Don’t like posting too much stuff here though for obvious reasons

I'd jump on the Lange over VC, though I'm not a fan of their newer sports pieces.

You can also look into FP Journe.

For sure, I do know some collectors would like to keep their profile discreet. I do try to not reveal too much of where I am and just keeping it general. But I do like to share my thoughts and experiences along the way.

Love the Hardian edition! I do like the Rudyard Kipling writers edition and so it the new Walt Disney LE. I particularly like the lenticular effect on the barrel, however I have to remind myself not to get into it too much otherwise it would be another really expensive hobby. I only have a few but not LEs, just so happen to like the LePetit Prince edition.

You may like this one, quite a rare #149 notebook. Only less than 10 copies were ever produced for the UK afaik. On the inside it's a mix of blank pages and images from Antoine's drawings and notes.

Ha fair enough. I did try the Odysseus and it's not too bad on the wrist but I still don't like the bracelet. I do find Lange's design a bit more utilitarian, perhaps that's why I'm more swayed towards VC. Journe's are lovely I agree! I wish they have a boutique here.

In fact i was going to get this Saxonia boutique edition but it was sold when i was going to purchase it.

Sweet! If I recall correctly there’s no fp journe in Malaysia?
I think I’ve seen that notebook before, didn’t cross my mind to get it as i preferred notebooks more, kinda regret it though.

I got the rudyard Kipling collection too but gifted it to a friend of mine for his birthday hmm.gif

Do agree it’s an expensive hobby, but Mont Blanc pens lasts forever if you take care of it hmm.gif

There’s one pen which is wood crafted, forgot the name.. a good keep though not limited

Sorry was meant to say Journe ADs in UK. There's not many about.

Tbh I haven't used that notebook yet, it's too nice and I doubt I would come across it again doh.gif It is actually a notebook with a few snippets of the little prince in between various blank pages. Very unusual. Of course there's the normal LePetit Prince A5 #146 which are just blank pages throughout. The cover is also a bit different without the embossing and gold foil.

I've been gifted a VC notebook too, the same size as the A4 #149 which by the looks of it was produced by Montblanc.

The wood crafted pen, is it the James Purdey & Sons MontBlanc? I love that one but I'm not a big fan of the association with guns.

Figured, fp journe is too rare n expensive.

Uwerk is as rare as it is in Malaysia lol.

As for montblanc,
I love blank pages without lines too, good for taking notes that is more towards formulas/drawings, I would recommend using normal Mont Blanc notebooks for writing, cuz the limited versions would somewhat of a waste lol

Oh yeah James Purdey & sons! Though you may not like guns, the woodwork is splendid, you won’t regret it.
I also have many so called limited edition inks brows.gif

Hmm, JL watches is worth the look too , though I’d prefer breguet. The naked mechanism is quite mesmerizing

For VC one day maybe I’m gonna try out patrimony retrograde day-date hmm.gif

VC watches always look beautiful in picture and in 'person'. The finishing is top class.

Lange is great and value for money. But brand power still lack that of VC for now.

I disagree.

Your common folk won't know what is VC.

Those that know VC would likely know Lange as well. Lange's recent auction pieces is a good indication that they are on the rise.

My heart is urging me to get a VC fifty six, but my brain is deciding blue or silver. NB one. lol.

Btw, any disc to ask for this. Its much more easily obtainable than the overseas. Hee

Nope, Cortina carries them as well. I can hook you up with my dealer if you want.

At the moment, I think the SS models are pretty much sold out, might be a waiting period.

But it's not as bad as Rolex la.

Thanks glad you liked it.
Not sure what are your preferences and there are many to choose from around 5k. Perhaps have a look at Longines, Tissot PRX series?

Looking around, there seem to be more budget alternatives lately even as the economy is sliding into recession. I had anticipated brands to raise prices but Citizen is now offering Promasters for < 3k. Orient’s Stela launched in USA. I have a Tissot PRS516 but rarely wear it and I’m wondering why I buy some watches….?

I finally went to Pavilion couple of weeks ago and saw where the VC boutique is going to be. The hoarding board is still up in Jan despite it saying opening in Dec 2022. I wonder when it will officially open.

Damn just missed it as I have to leave KL to head home. Would have been great if it was opened in Dec, I needed a strap change.
The boutique looks amazing! Would love to see how it looks like inside.
