Hi, I am a Malaysian living in Korea & Malaysia. The reason to create this post is to share some of my experience / ideas / casual discussions to people who is interested in Korea & Malaysia home living & lifestyle. Any ideas, questions or recommendation is welcome and hope I could make this post as fun as possible.

Picture on the left is where I live in Korea. I live in a 10 yrs old two rooms 600sq feet apartment ('Condo' is not common in Korea, any residential buildings with elevator will be classified as 'Apartment')

Picture on the right is my Msia house. A 1500sq feet 20yrs old 2 1/2 story terrace house in KL. Recent reno was done in year 2017 (mostly exterior) and I am renewing the interior starting from March 2019. Basically is to redo all water pipping / bathrooms / electrical wirings / new ceilings / kitchens. I will introduce /share some of the Korea household products install in my Msia home later. When the time is right...

These are some stuff that I wish to share and discuss.
1. Wall / Ceiling / Electrical / Water / Doors & Windows
2. IOT products / Smart home / Security / Electrical household
3. House maintenance / Electric usage / Water usage
4. Basic household products
5. Living lifestyle

To be cont....

I will only do updating on my 1st and 2nd post so that it is easy to keep track on my progress. This post will be use for my Korea house where the other is Msia house.

Malaysia house

2016 - (Pic 1 & 2) This is one of the reno which was done in 2016. Adding a second living area with full length alu-frame glass door facing my small garden. Cost for extension is around RM20k (concrete slab, waterproofing, 4 x power points, 5 x lighting points, 1 x fan point, marble tiles,). Quite happy with the outcome..

2019 - Renovation will start in the month of March. We are going to make a elder-friendly + smart room for my dad (age 80++) at the ground floor. At the same time renewing all facilities in the house.

8/4/2019 - (Pic 3 & 4) It's been 3 weeks since reno started and currently they have completed hacking works for toilet, walls and power points. To keep switches at easy to reach height (especially for wheel-chair bound elderly) the height of all points/switches will be lower than standards.

We have a common toilet at the ground floor. It will be widen and attach with my dad's room. The toilet design will be elder/handicapped frenly.

to be cont...

Hi,

Not broken but the marble that i use is not A grade thus color on every pieces are different.

Just to share with you on flooring. This is my kitchen flooring, what i do is buy 3 diff colors or tiles and ask the installer to tile it in whatever pattern he thinks it is good. This is the end effect and it looks great for me. The tiller was having a good time too while working on it.

Tiles are old stocks from White horse where they sell it with a cheap price. Bcoz the remaining quantity is not enuf to cover my kitchen therefore i just mixed it with others. A way to save money at the same time making something different.

Hi guys, I would like to find out whether i can get PVC toilet ceiling in Msia as I would like to install it into my new bathroom in Msia house.

PVC ceiling is common in Korea and it works very well here. 100% waterproof and the color / Surface stay the same for 10 years. If I am not able to get this in KL probably I will get it in Korea and ship to KL.

There's uPVC here, not sure if it's the same thing.

Robert Soo (012-4302889)

He does that if he's still in biz but I've no experience with him as I used plaster ceiling simply because it's an easier tell-tale of any leakage, however minor.

The plastic ceiling is waterproof and much easier to maintain than plaster ceiling. That's why I put the hassle to bring it to Msia. By the way it is only for bathroom. Installation is very easy.

This is another gadgets where I will install in my kitchen. It is a electrical smart gas valve controller. The reason we are having this reno is for my dad. He is 80 years old and living without a maid at home. Sometimes he will use the stove to cook food and forgotten to switch off the gas. I am in planning to make a smart room for him and putting all smart gadgets to help him.

In msia we normally set the gas cylinder next to the stove but i want to seperate it. We are building a storage area and seperate the gas cylinder with a wall and using smart gas valve to control gas. It has smart functions such as gas dectection alarm, timer, remote control via phone. Incase there is a gas leak the smart valve will cut the gas supply by it's own.

Picture is similar with what i am looking but not the exact model.

Curtain blind.

23/3/19- Few years back before i moved to Korea it is not easy to get such a blinds with reasonable price in KL. This type of blind curtains is very common in Korea. I only spend rm400 to cover all the windows at the balcony (280cm x 240cm) + (220cm x 240). I am not sure what is the current pricing in KL. If it is much higher in KL probably i will get it here and install at my KL house. Currently it is under renovation.

Please let me know / recommend me if you know such a supplier in KL. Tq

Reserved for Korea Lighting / Electrical / Smart & IOT devices

8/4/2019 - I have done some reading from lowyat about smart home devices and it seems that the setup is a bit different with Korea. My initial plan is to get some devices in Malaysia rather than Korea but I think it is better for me to use Korean products. I don't recommend smart devices from Korea bcoz of language diff and warranty issue but for my case it is not a big deal as I will travel to msia quite often.
The Ai speaker that we use in Korea is very useful. From controlling IOT / smart devices via voice, asking general information, to making delivery food order the AI speaker works really well and seldom gives us trouble. However these functions might be limited in msia.

Currently I am testing my AI speaker to control all IR devices in my house in Korea. If it works well then I will get a set to Msia.

Does this nano thingy need a seal enclosure in order to be effective? Our Malaysian DB box normally not air tight.
