Do you have usb 3.0 on the motherboard? if you don't, then it's time to upgrade.

Yeah. Total system upgrade is recommended. Do check online for H310C motherboards that could support ddr3 ram, if you want to reuse as many parts as possible.

But nowadays ddr4 prices have reduced a lot so you could just do a total upgrade to Ryzen or intel 8-9 gen.

Consider your budget and let us know if you need help deciding which parts to select.

The best you can upgrade is i7-2700k but that wont be good enough for long unless you can overclock it a lot.

The better way is to move forward to newer architecture to match your GTX1070

Going with the H310C can let you use stuff from 6-9th gen Intel, so you could probably consider getting an i5-8400 for a major upgrade and keep using your ddr3.

But it wont perform as well as ddr4, of course. If you have RM 1300-1600, go with new MOBO+CPU+RAM

It depends on:

1. budget (what you wish to spend and max limit)
2. What apps/games you run, what resolution?

Example of combo
-Amd Ryzen 2600 + B450 motherboard
-Intel i5-8400 + b370 motherboard

Ram choice also depends:
Amd prefer faster ram 2800-3200mhz (if want to overclock)
Intel won't benefit much, just stay 2400-2666mhz for most people.

You could view various gameplay videos online and see which combo with your gtx1070 would be good.

Search for Ryzen 2600 + gtx 1070, anthem...

my budget is under 2k
but i want to use as much of my old hardward as possible
right now i m playing Anthem..
and can only stay at medium setting to get constant 30-40+ fps at 1920x1080
if i go high or ultra setting, the fps drop badly
prefer Intel over AMD..

Right... just for anthem?

System requirements: https://www.ea.com/games/anthem/buy/pc-system-requirements

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5 GHz
RAM: 16 GB System Memory
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060/ RTX 2060, AMD RX 480 => GTX 1070 OK
GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory => GTX 1070 OK
HARD DRIVE: At least 50 GB of free space => 120GB SSD and 2TB HDD enough

Otherwise suggested:

Intel i5-8400 (RM 819)
Asrock B360 PRO 4 (RM 369)
Kingston DDR4-2400 or 2666, 8GB x2 (RM 458)

Current total RM 1646

You can then reuse your SSD and graphic card, while your old i5-2400 rig can be repurposed or sold.
