Hi Sifus,
I am neighbours with an abandoned looking commercial lot. How can I find who is the owner of the property? I'd like to rent/buy the space. Thank you

1. Go to the local authority (majlis perbandaran) to do a search based on address. If the address is different from the abandoned property, try if you can find the owner at the address.
2. If 1 failed, used the search copy to do a search at the Pejabat Tanah. Visit the address as shown on the search. 3. If the registered owner is Sdn Bhd, do a search at SSM to have the latest info from the Annual Return. Before doing 1, 2 and 3, asked the neighbours if anyone knows the owner. Try locating the last tenant, if possible. It could also be a developer's unit. Chances of you finding the owner is slim because if it is abandoned for a long time, the owner might have passed away and the next of kin have not sorted out the matter or they may know the property exist. Good luck. |
