if u r looking for real basement type of house in Malaysia, I haven't come across any yet.
I do know there are houses along Jalan Universiti in Petaling Jaya whereby the ground floor is facing the main road, and there is a another floor but below the ground floor because the houses are built on a sloppy ravine.

I have seen few houses with basement. All build & design from scratch (not the one buying from developer).

Mostly store or laundry area.

Yup. Due to our weather, need to keep water out. Costly waterproofing. Workmanship will almost always fails the waterproofing.

Special structure needed too.

in the end, build higher up is more economical

yes, this, my uncle had a small semi-d.
he made a small basement thinking to make it as store room for storing craps.

2 years later, water mark coming from the wall. then more and more.
in the end he covered the whole place with soil and cement, not using anymore

add basement is not really hard, you just need an out door staircase, and 1floor 1 be your main entrance. solved

The problem with basements is the cost of waterproofing them against our weather. Forget a cozy man cave, you're just gonna get a damp dungeon.

If you build a basement on higher ground then it's not quite a basement anymore, right? And besides, I didn't say impossible, just too costly to be worth the trouble. Cheaper and easier to build upwards.

Basement means the house will have more space without taking up too much land space above. Very good idea but proper water proofing is a must. Moisture from ground very high.

In reality basement is overrated even the foreigners who owns it said, just used for storing rubbish, very poor ventilation and damp with pests around.

celaka far...

there are a lot of flights going into Alice Springs, albeit expensive but it's easily accesible

this place is really deserted from everywhere...

I bet there are more flights to Onslow or most of the FIFO sites than Coober Pedy dry.gif

maybe one day I should do a road trip from Adelaide to Darwin through Coober Pedy

I concur

This is the only other legitimate justification for basement

the only necessity to build undergrd is
- if place has height limits
- cyclone shelter
- bomb shelter
- desert

Even houses beside a slope has moisture seepage.

if u r looking for real basement type of house in Malaysia, I haven't come across any yet.
I do know there are houses along Jalan Universiti in Petaling Jaya whereby the ground floor is facing the main road, and there is a another floor but below the ground floor because the houses are built on a sloppy ravine.

maybe one day I should do a road trip from Adelaide to Darwin through Coober Pedy

We flew in Adelaide and drove northwards to Port Augusta, Woomera, CP.

IIRC, it was in the month of June, hence, pleasant jumper-day weather.
