I've searched but doesn't seem to have a related topic.
Anyway, I've some experience in trading US and HK markets and the use of algorithm or Ai trading is quite prevalent there. The percentage of such trades over the total volume has been increasing over the years.
I'm wondering how about the situation in Bursa Malaysia? I'm not talking about merely those technical signal giving apps like Homily or the likes, but full blown algo trading systems (or black boxes) that can make and execute trading decisions with none or minimal human input.
Does anyone has any insights to share? We can discuss how this might impact the trading environment in the middle to far terms.
Also I'm really keen to explore into this area. If there are people or parties reading this who are currently developing/deploying/selling or even thinking of creating such systems, please - feel free to contact me. I am prepared to spend resources to delve into this area. Thanks.

I don't think we have that in Malaysia. Just compare the physical stock exchange of US and Malaysia and you will see the difference.
In Malaysia, there is no one running around taking orders from clients and using fancy devices that is supposed to provide almost perfect information.
Furthermore, these AI most likely can extract annual reports quickly and extrapolate to predict future earnings. They probably also crawl news pages for political information but it might not be that accurate.
I recall a study whereby using AI to trade is not so popular because of political instability especially in third world countries.
AI trades to obtain abritrage profits from the different FOREX rates offered by different financial institutions is more popular as it's just merely matching the rates and profits are almost 99.9% certain

There has been algo trading Bursa for years. However, they are exclusively used by foreign IB only. They were developed in house for own use only, but deployed worldwide (each market has its own rules, and any amendment to the rules are reflected in the system).
Although there have been improvements, they are still not very effective trading extremely illiquid/thinly traded counters. This is because they use machine learning. They trade bluechips pretty well. They also can beat most client specified benchmarks pretty well (most commonly VWAP). Because of their near instantaneous speed, they can fulfill market-at-open and market-at-close orders infinitely faster than humans can, very useful.
One main weakness is that a very seasoned trader can detect algo trades, and manipulate them for their own gains. Thus despite their complexity, they still do need to be babysat by humans. They have also triggered a few UMA occasionally, mainly due to fat finger errors haha.
Sos: I was an algo trader.

ViktorJ is right, Algo trading has been here for a while now but mainly for IBs. Consumer algo trading does exist but its very hard to come by a commercial one mainly due to the lack of back end access to the trading platforms. Local banks will not grand you their APIs as it is a security risk. in my own POV, the one way you could develop something close to algo trading is paying Bursa for live market data and analysing the data from there but as far as i know every trade still has to be manual. HFT on a consumer level sounds like a dream in the malaysian market

I had spent almost 2 years developing my own algorithm investing for bursa stock. Most of my investment decision are based on this algorithm, and so far my portfolio had outperformed the KLCI index quite consistently. The algorithm is based on Value-Price divergent principle. Those interested for the call can email me at shpg22@gmail.com.

M+ recently launch Algorithm Trading ELFSTONE is an Algorithm Trading program designed to execute buy and sell orders automatically based on pre-set algorithmic data. It allows users to set their profit and loss point as well as to select their preferred trading strategies. https://mplusonline.com/ai-trading/

Ah... Revisiting this thread after so long.
From what I've gathered recently, algo trading has been gaining more and more traction in bursa but have been mostly kept in-house by the brokers and also a select few foreign owned algo/hft firms. Obviously these guys aren't going to share their secret recipes!
I've also heard that the past 6 months many of the high volume penny stocks have attracted heavy algo trading hence the heavy churning that we see day in and day out... Sometimes with these penny stocks just moving within 2 bids. Bursa obviously love them, as they have contributed to the record volumes seen over these past few months.
That said I'm still mostly a manual hands-on trader but would love to get linked to a computerised/algo platform to augment my trading strategies.

If hf trading is permitted at bursa, many retailers would be wiped clean.

Recently we build one auto trading system for client, preset rules with indicators, connecting IB. Now try exploring to get the bursa data, does our bursa provide any api ? Thanks
