17" 753DFX

The red color has gone.
See red as black.

Bought it on April 2004.

Question:
Samsung a reliable product?
I'm confused whether to buy a new monitor or repair it to solve the red color issue.

OT:
My sis bought a Samsung cellphone...gone after a year.

Samsung good in computer but bad in other electrical products?

I bought used 15" NEC for RM100 in 2002.
Still only use it for emergency/testing.

Dunno where to repair my Samsung.
No Samsung services in Malaysia hmm.gif

Yeah, i heard CRT monitors have their own life-span, that's why it's important to look at the age of the monitor for those who wanna buy CRT monitor..

but so far my 17" 793DF had been a great monitor, and same like akachester, lastime i had a samsung dvd-rom, gone within a year..

Yeah, I have been using an LCD monitor for about 4 years now and I'm a gamer. That was 4 years ago when CRT is still better than LCD. But that isn't the case now.

I mean just go to any electrical stores and you will see that their TV sections will be flooded with LCD TVs. Even places like Carrefour has more LCD than CRT TV on display.

And actually by comparing the same size, let's say 17", a flat screen CRT will cost you about RM400, why not just add up A LITTLE BIT then u can get yourself a LCD already.. doesn't really have to stick with CRT as the price difference are not big smile.gif

I also got problem with my samsung, same spec as your. It's 17" 753DFX. My monitor always on during the whole night. During days from Mon - Fri I am out, going to work.

FYI, I used it since 2004. After three years, it's quality is in doubt lah mad.gif

My monitor sometimes go awry, such as sudden changing brightness, and sometimes go blank, sometimes windows screen disappear and showing only several colorful lines on the screen. I have to turn off the monitor for a while, then turn it on again. It remedies the annoyance I described earlier huh.gif

My trust to Samsung brand grew thin and thinner as days passed. I think it's time to look after another reliable brand. How about LG and ViewSonic LCD brand? Are they very good?

Added on June 17, 2007, 11:40 amA forumer on another site claim that placing and turn on speakers close to CRT monitor will degrade the CRT monitor quality. Is it true?

Thanks for the feedback guys notworthy.gif

I got no problems to buy a new one.
The problem is, got three(3) monitors in my room already.
15" HP Pavillion (1998) - still ok but seem darker.
14" used NEC - still ok.
The Samsung that I'm using now.

If I buy a new one, my room will filled with monitors.
Can I sell it as scrap/used stuffs?
Around Ampang? hmm.gif

IIRC, Samsung has a service centre in Lowyat 3rd floor. I'm not sure if it's still there. Btw if you're from Penang, then its at Northam Tower.

753DFX year 2004 yah, there is a few batch of 753DFX and 795MB with defects during that year if i've not mistaken. Some experience problems as early as half a year in use, like my 795MB and my friends 753DFX. However after RMA, everything works like a charm. According to the Samsung technician which handled my RMA, he said that there were quite a few batches with defect ICs and he says i'm just unlucky to get one which gives problem ss early on, phew, guess i should call myself lucky after seeing your case.

Btw, if it's after warranty period, i guess not worth repairing it as the repair bill might cost as much as a new CRT.

it depends... i repaired tons of CRT monitors which cost RM50 on average... it depends on wat's the damage... in some cases it might be juz the VGA cable... and yeah im using 753DFX as well... got it from customer who want to change to LCD... rolleyes.gif i love flat screen CRT... thumbup.gif

NEC monitors are 2 heavy for me la... for office ok la... for home have to consider the strength of the table... biggrin.gif

Samsung r famous for their monitors, TV's n RAM chip... thumbup.gif other product i not so confident... sad.gif esp their HP and optical drives... sweat.gif

i think as of today, the monitor is at least 5+ yrs old already... becuase i use it back at university days...and now i work 4 1/2 years already...
so definitely is around at least 5 yrs...
and the monitor is still in superb excellent condition... hardly notice it degrades...

so i guess it's your luck... i've known a few of my friends using samsung 17in monitor without any problem at all also...

or probably you turn on your monitor all the time? hence stressing the monitor more?

Hmm, then i think you should contact TS and see if you could help him.
If he were to send it back to Samsung Service Center after warranty period, i bet you can imagine how the situation is. rclxub.gif

Btw, what do you think is the problem here, mind sharing why the monitor loses it's ability to show red?

Someone did told me that my CRT tube that was used for the red color has worn out.
Need to change to a new one.

I love CRT flat screen too.
My bro said that games with high graphics looks drool.gif on flat CRT compare to LCD.

My other friend told me...better don't repair since it would only last a week.
Then same old story again.

My sis bought Samsung cellphone...1 year kaputt already doh.gif

I only shut down my PC.
The ON/OFF button on the monitor...I never pushed it.
Long story short, I just shut down my PC...OFF the plug socket..that's it.
Could that be the cause of reliability? hmm.gif

Samsung is a reliable brand. Previously i use Samsung 763MB 17" CRT monitor for more than 4 years and it is still in a very good condition, just that i have change to a bigger 22" wide-screen LCD montior now.

I still prefer a CRT. Easy on my eyes. I can detect flickers at 70Hz or lower and am sensitive to LCD brightness - it's like staring into the sun. When I switch to an LCD, I experience all sorts of problems - eye strain, headaches etc. So now switch back to CRT. In case anyone saying reduce brightness, it was reduced to 0. Adjusting contrast din help either.

My advice for those experiencing any problems like me s to not force yourself. You'll NEVER get use to it. When you do, you've already damage your eyes.

Buy the type of monitor that will be easy on your eyes - Don't always think of price.
