I used the new type machine where you have to type in your account number and amount, instead of those where you need to use the envelop

I haven't deposited a cheque in ages. Last time I remember needing to fill up the envelope
I have never used the new machine where no envelop is needed and you have to type in your account number etc
Since I see my name come up after I type my acc number, I presume everything OK

In Maybank, they have two types of cheque deposit machine. One is where you actually type your bank account number on the machine and it will show your name after you're done, probably this one may clear. If it's the other type, it won't clear. I mean, how would the bank know which account to bank into? Even with your name, cos there may be people with the same name.

Actually depend on the bank
Some bank will call you to verify, asking permission to clear or bounce, with penalty or not
Some will jz bounce the cheque and penalty

Kena few times with bank that have current account.. no problem .. call and verify only.. no penalty

Update : I already see the "float" in my account. Does this mean will clear ?
Honest : I have not deposited a cheque since when I was doing part time in uni. Itu pun for my boss. I have never deposited a cheque for myself
I have never used the new type, no envelop machines before

If banks still rely on the written info at the back of the cheque, I wonder why we still need to key in the recipient's account number and the sum.
I'm referring to Maybank's cheque deposit machines.

I also forgot to write.. long time never deposit cheque.. will update if it cleared..

I thought machine will prompt me for account number but it just said thank you and then bye bye...

Note that I did this few years ago, where I never write account number on the back of the cheque, but entered account into deposit machine and it always cleared.
