Hello. Im currently looking to change ny stocked Goodyear tires. Went around to a few shops and they have recommended Conti, Michellin Primacy and Lassa. As this would be my 1st time changing SUV tires, appreciate if you could advice on which brand/tires a best to used for a smoother, quieter drive during all weather. Tyre dimension is 225/65 17'. Thank you.

You may want to check out the Yokohama Geolandar SUV G055 or Bridgestone Dueler. I think they are decent tyres too. Using the Geolandar SUV G055 currently on CX-5 as well. Comfort and good handling too. This is really a very common size and plenty of choices out there.

I would choose the Conti's. Less expensive than Michelin and provides good handling.

Been using Pirelli Scorpio Verde All Season.. not satisfied because in time there would be small cracks on the tyre threads..
Price wise similar with Michelin Primacy SUV.. rm400+
Goodyear which come from factory is very bad, noisy and grip while raining is bad.. not as good as Michelin and Pirelli

Thanks for sharing your feedback guys. I think I will give Michellin a try this time around, although most of the shops I have checked around my place in PJ are selling it for around rm500.

tumpang thread, anyone with cx5 2.0 change from 17" to 18"?

reason I'm asking, I'm trying to get a new look for my cx5 by changing rims n tyre together in future. I like to know what spec of rims and tyre u would change for 18", I'm not going for 19" coz I don't want to have huge gap differences of performance n comfort, no doubt 19" is a looker.

Toyo proxes Cf2 SUV is middle range tire, while michelin primacy is premium brand tire.
Price range & grade is totally different and if got budget for sure Michelin is the better choice.

I decided to go ahead with Michellin. Happy with the performance so far, a couple of k mileage now, drove at around 150kmph at times as well. Sound was relatively low and good control. Only thing i dislike is that small stones/pebbles will get stucked in between your tire lines.

Harder than Mich Pri SUV. I replaced my Toyo which came with my Navara with Mich. Since I do not off-road, great for highway and small highway as well as badly paved roads. Since mine was 18 inch, had to pay 750 per pc.

Hi, would like to ask. Mine is cx5 19inch rim stock toyo tyre. I find the road/tyre noise is too loud to my liking.
Now i am thinking next time change tyre, i can either go for michellin ps4 suv 19 inch tyre or i buy a set of 17 inch and use michelin also.

What you guys think? Is 2nd option worth the extra money for the improved NVH?

Hi!! may i know eventually did you go for PS4 SUV (225-55-19)? if yes, mind share your ride experience? comfort and quiet? road handling?

I was being offered Conti UC6 for RM 560 and PS4 for RM 900, i loves Michelin but not sure worth going in that price hmm.gif

At the end i went for 17inch (I change rim) primacy suv.
I feel the comfort and quiet just slightly better than stock toyo. You wont really find the difference after you used to it. The road noise is always there, just need better insulation from the car itself.

Primacy suv is not performance tyre like ps4 suv. But I am quite confident during cornering, maybe i dint drive that fast.

Thanks bro for the updates.

Now i contemplating if worth to go for PS4 SUV given the price differential with UC6 so high hmm.gif

I never tried Continental tire in the past so not sure how it is. I am very happy with Michelin and Pirelli, and current stock Toyo so far so good too.

UC6 is low end model from Continental while PS4 is high performance model from Michelin which is 2 levels higher in category. Comparable Continental model to PS4 SUV is CSC5 SUV which maybe even more expensive since it's still made in Europe. Continental if top end models like CSC series are excellent tires that go toe-to-toe with Michelin high performance models. Low end models like UC6 though is tire asal jalan saja. I personally won't buy them. Anyway huge 19' tires, what do you expect on the price? Good tires surely will be very expensive for such huge size.

If so, i will go for PS4 as i am comfortable with Michelin. Thanks again

Premium Brands Versus No-names

What emerged - every time - during four or five years of annual Wheels magazine tyre testing was that all the 'name' brands are pretty much a photo-finish. Bridgestone, Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin, Continental, etc. They all performed about the same, overall. Often, the differences were below the bounds of experimental error - meaning that the differences between them were smaller than our ability to measure them.

Interestingly, the brands like (in particular) Kumho, Hankook, Toyo, Firestone, etc., were also very solid performers - in many cases just as good as the premium brands.

Hankook has often matches those other brands and I noticed recently in the Tyrereview UK website they are now included in the top tier premium brand category already, overtaking even Yokohama.

Toyo though only occasionally can match the best of those other brands, more often still below in most comparisons I have noticed. If prices of them can be much cheaper than those premium brands then maybe worth to try but if almost similar then better not.

Firestone not sure, not quite popular here anyway. It's an old rather popular brand in the US as part of Bridgestone sub brand, so maybe decent but theh don't seem to have offerings that can match the max performance category of the top brands like PS4S, CSC6, F1A5/SS or PZero PZ4.

Kumho though, not really. Never heard or read anything good about their products. Surely way below what Hankook has been able to deliver.
