Just got a brand new selenite from illegear and i get random popping and crackling noise. windows all updated.

Yes, as stated before i have completed all windows update. the speaker is still crackling and popping randomly. also, i noticed in the BIOS the lowest undervolt i can set is -50mV. but reading through the forum, there are people who can undervolt in BIOS to -150mV even to -185mV. in my bios, it maxed out at -50mV. any idea?

FYI, my realtek driver is 8619. I can see that there are many owners here facing the same issue.

Sent. How about the BIOS undervolt? is there a reason mine is only maxed out at -50mV? can i go lower?

Also, it seems illegear dont regularly update the support page drivers and apps. I'm not too concerned about the drivers as most of them can be downloaded from nvidia, intel etc. but the illegear specific apps like illegear command center needs to be updated. the version that came with my laptop is actually newer than the one posted on the support site, so if i wanted to format my windows, i will not have the latest command center software.

for issues like popping and crackling sound, the realtek sound driver and sound blaster cinema app also need to be updated on the support page.

I had requested for that but it wasn't carried out by them. The drivers installed on my laptop are still mostly outdated and they did not include the latest drivers in a folder too. Drivers and software on their website are also really outdated. guess they were too busy.

yes in the end i had to look for them for the updated software and drivers. to their credit, they responded quite quickly. but it's again a hassle to have to always ask them for new drivers and software. It would be great if they can regularly update their support page.

Is illegear support still working? Cos they don't reply to whatsapp text message and the support page driver and apps are never updated. They are quite fast to reply previously. Don't know what's going on with their support.

Yes I totally agree on this. A last updated date column for each driver and application is going to be very useful in the support page section.

It would appear that the new illegear command center v1.0.0.45 is very buggy.

1. The new command center will switch off keyboard RGB lighting after few minutes of idling. the display can still be on, but the keyboard lighting will go off. and when you move your mouse, the entire system will freeze for a second trying to turn on the keyboard lighting.

2. Office mode (standard/eco/basic/advanced) no longer lower the CPU PL1 and PL2 TDP to 35W. It will be the same 80W as gaming mode. In other words, there's no difference between gaming mode and office mode.

3. Sometimes, the new command center will not start with windows.

what other details do you need? I think i've described the bug quite detailed already and there are others who can confirm having the same problem with command center 1.0.0.45

What version of command center did your laptop come with? If it's 1.0.0.45, u can downgrade it to 1.0.0.39 and set it to office/eco mode which will limit the TDP of CPU to 35W. 1.0.0.45 is very buggy.

I've tested v1.0.0.50 and the keyboard lighting and system freeze after idling for a few minutes seemed to have been resolved. As to office/eco mode, CPU PL1 and PL2 are still the same gaming mode, meaning 75W for PL1 and 80W for PL2 and this can be confirmed when you run CPU benchmark under office/eco mode, the CPU can still draw up to 80W of power. other than that i havent had enough time to test this new command center for long term use.

Also, illegear advertised the display response time can be reduced to 5ms when power boost is enabled which is pretty good. but i dont see where in command center the option is available to enable power boost for the display to be set to 5ms. Perhaps illegear staff can enlighten owners here how to enable power boost to enable 5ms response time for display.

For your reference, this is what is being advertised.

your selenite most likely come undervolted out of the box to a max -50mV in bios already. the new bios does not allow anything more than -50mV so you cant do much at all with it. you need throttlestop or intel XTU to undervolt further. just go to youtube and search for undervolt intel cpu. there are many guides out there, there are all pretty much the same.

Undervolt is really luck dependant. some can get a massive undervolt, over -150mV, some can do only -50mV. so it's all silicon lottery.

To be honest, the latest realtek driver (8710) did not fix the popping and crackling audio issue. It is still happening even after a fresh windows install together with the latest 8710 realtek driver.

1. I too experience issues with the USB port on the right side. The port closer to the back will randomly disconnect when i copy a large file to it. It doesnt matter if i use a thumb drive or an external HDD. The result is the same. however, if i move the exact same external storage device to the USB port next to it and perform the exact same file copy, it works perfectly every single time. I have disabled all USB power saving related options in windows and the issue is still persistent. So you might wanna test out the other ports.

2. This issue has been there since day one and was never fixed even with the latest realtek driver (8710). The only method i find able to eliminate this popping and crackling issue is to remove realtek driver altogether and use windows generic driver. however, by doing that, you loose sound blaster cinema function.

3. I didnt notice this but the speakers on selenite are not good to begin with.

4. I dont use headphone so i cant comment on this, but it could be possible your headphone jack is damaged? have you tried other headphone jack?

unfortunately it wont. no matter how many times you format, as long as you use the realtek driver and sb cinema software, the popping and crackling will start to appear. there is NO fix till this day.

I too disabled power management in realtek windows app which did reduce the symptom but it is still there.

The only tried and true way is to uninstall the realtek driver and use windows generic default sound driver. but the sound is really tiny and sb cinema will be disabled.

i dont think it's an issue with realtek driver. There are many realtek sound enabled laptops and computers out there and only tongfang made laptops are severely affected by this popping and crackling issue
