Is there a firmware or driver update available for the Illegear branded ssd? Current driver is from 2006. I think that might be one of the reasons why C states aren't getting lowered.

Hi SaiyanGoku

As per checking, the version here is the driver & OS in the SSD, not the firmware.

QUOTE(JonKS1 @ Jan 2 2020, 09:07 AM)
I owned a Selenite more than about a week now, I can say that it is a nice gaming laptop. So I will just skip the good part of this laptop.

I will just mention noticeable problems straight away. After one week of using it, I noticed several problems as shown below:
1. Copying large files (normally more than 10 GB from SSD to ext. HDD most of the time will stuck at 99% forever.

2. I can hear a cracking/pop sound whenever I play a music or video or even game.

3. I feel that the left side speaker is slightly louder than right side speaker. Which means the output is unbalanced. Maybe due to the internal subwoofer location installed on the right side causing the unbalance of the audio.

4. When I plug in my earphone, there is no sound coming out from my earphone. The sound instead is produced from the speaker. So I have to replug several times only then I can get the sound from earphone.
These problems are rather irritating during daily use. Not sure if there is any tip from you guys. On the other hand, I am thinking to reset the laptop one time to see if everything is resolved or not.

Hi JonKS1

The previous cracking sound has been fixed by the latest realtek driver patch. Can you whatsapp us for more details? Will assist.

QUOTE(Man On Fire @ Jan 7 2020, 04:55 PM)
Several youtube reviewers praise the Mag-15 laptop esp from eluktronic and aftershock. I wonder Selenite Pro is similar or not. But, im kinda confuse...so illegear Onyx pro not similar like Mag-15??
*
QUOTE(Jared21 @ Jan 7 2020, 08:32 PM)
Neither one of them uses the MAG15 chassis. The MAG15 uses the QC7 and has a mech keyboard while the Onyx and Selenite Pro uses membrane
*
The SELENITE Pro uses the same motherboard and thermal as the mentioned MAG15 laptop, the only differences are the GPU options, screen refresh rate and keyboard.

Hope clarify.

Interesting. Seems that only the chassis is different among all these models while the actual board is the same. Thanks for clearing that up

No problem, happy to help. We are also liaising with factory FAE in regards to the pop sound, will get back as soon as we receive an update from them.

This will apply to all laptop including Selenite right?
*
All our other models do not have this issue, it only happened on the previous SELENITE (non pro) and the factory FAE told us that other market users have never complaint about this. Therefore it will take us sometime to send back the system to have them check on it. We did send once few months back and the FAE couldn't find out anything.

Anything we will keep you guys updated.

I did some setting with the power management, which reduce the popping sound. Just that I notice the sound is unbalance from the speaker. Do you feel that?
*
The subwoofer is attached on one side of the speaker.

is it just me or is the area above the keyboard F5-F11 keys extremely hot? i dont recall any power delivery circuits underneath that area. why is it so hot? will it cause long term problems?
*
The heatsink is placed underneath the F5 to F11 buttons (keyboard top), it's normal.

I've checked at the back, the heatsink is not directly underneath the area above F5 to F11 keys. That area is around the HDMI and two Display ports and there's nothing there which is hot. Besides, the heatsink has no direct contact with that area and it's isolated by the motherboard.

The area above F5-F11 is crazy hot. I cant even place my fingers there for 3 seconds without being burnt. That cant be good for the longevity of the motherboard components and PCB.
*
Hi alexnvidia,

We never had any Selenite user burnt his motherboard components and PCB due to the thermal design / heat dissipation since the 1st generation SELENITE i7-8750H and GTX1060 model, and in fact selenite is one of our best cooled laptops we have released.

If you are worry about the longevity or something, you can always send to us for servicing / checking.

Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there an update to the popping and crackling issue for the highly problematic selenite realtek driver from the manufacturer?
*
They are asking us to send an unit back again for inspection after they are back from holiday.

To resolve the problem effectively, can we request for your laptop with the particular song generating the most crackles stored inside your storage drive so we can pinpoint to them what are the crackles you wish to solve?

We tried to send our Selenite stock back last year but they said there was no crackles found on their end. Moreover, there are no other customers from other regions (US, Europe, Korea etc) complaining the crackles on this GK-S (selenite) model according to them.

the popping and crackling issue does not depend on the song. It just happens randomly appearing out of no where when there's audio playing, or when the audio is about to play. it can be music, can be movie, can be youtube stuff, can be gaming. it's really difficult to replicate it consistently, but it is there. have you tried testing this out on your end and can you hear the popping and crackling on your end?
*
I will ask my tech manager next week when he has back to work.

Can we request for your physical machine for a test?

Dunno about guys but for me the selenite is a love hate relationship.

On 1 hand this is a pretty solid lightweight gaming laptop

On the other hand. This is the laptop i send in for repair the most just in 1 year. when it came there was problem with the sound system and certain buttons. then it was a problem with charging after that was fixed there were times the laptop totally cannot detect the power cable. After this was fixed. I noticed the laptop would shutdown for no reason. Almost like there is a overheating problem. But that cant be since i use it in a aircon room with a laptop cooler. There is also this pop noise from the speaker like someone turned on an external speaker occassionally And just today. 1 year and 2 months plus latter. The laptop cause my house power to trip now i got a monitor that flicker on and off.. sad thing is i mention to illegear tech support before when they checking the charging and cannot find power plug problem, That the mboard or onboard power supply might be faulty and if they can change. but they say its the brick/power plug problem........

So for those guys that got a good laptop ur lucky for those that hit 4d like me well good luck.

Some guy mention a problem with the power button suggest u get the mboard changed. Had a similar problen with my old clevo/tongfang model from aftershock. Mboard was the problem
*
Hi GretZeit

Sorry of hearing this. May i know have your RMA number or serial number of your laptop so I can assist you further? Do you try to use your laptop in another place and experience the trip?

Hi boss. Btw u mean Trip as in house or just the laptop. If house nope this is the first time and the reason y i say its the laptop cuz the laptop forced shutdown and my house trip. Since the battery is in if it wasnt laptop problem the laptop should be running on battery. If ur talking about the laptop tripping well  its rare but happened many times before not just at my house.

My serial is GK7CN6S2183300060

U can check out the problem below. Btw this is happening even if u access bios setting so its not a windows problem

Hi GretZeit,

The trip and forced shutdown are definitely not a windows / bios problem. Can we check the physical laptop?

Guys, what's the equivalent/generic name for the Illegear Selenite from other manufacturers? e.g.  Tongfang, XMG, Eluktronick etc
*
Hi amir,

SELENITE is ID-S, SELENITE PRO is ID-P.

Does anyone know the size and thickness of the M.2 thermal pad on the selenite? Have some spare thermal pads lying around (2mm and 3mm)
*
Hi Jared21, our thermal pad for M.2 SSD is 4mm thick.

Thanks! thumbup.gif  How about length and width?
*
22mm height, 40 to 60mm length depends on your chipset. My tech just told me 1mm to 2mm thickness are fine too, but for best result we recommend 4mm thickness.

I repasted with CM Mastergel Maker.

Honestly it's just worse compared to TG Kryonaut. Before, playing Anthem my CPU would hover around 80-85C max. Now, it's pushing to 90C constantly. And some core even up to 97C. Even during idle I noticed it's higher on average. Now I regret  cry.gif

Hi amir,

You may send in your selenite and we can help you to repaste back to Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

The new CAP 5 on the Onyx G looks so much better than what we have on the Selenite. Any chance of being able to swap them on to our units?
*
I don't think it's possible because both keyboard travel distances are different. The cap 3 is specially designed for 3mm SELENITE keyboard.
