I think I need to start saving money on car maintenance. Next time I am going to change the engine oil, oil filter, atf fluid, air filter myself. But I am not 100% sure what I need to do. I drive the 2017 perodua axia model anyway. Anyone can give a little guide on how to do all these or can anyone recommend any tutorials that are readily available?

The engine oil and air filter is easy, axia engine bay is quite spacious compared to the engine. I want to knw about the gearbox oil too . Mine is a manual, whn I look at the gearbox thr seems to be two bolts tht look like the drain and fill, but thy are so close to eachother .

You will be foregoing the manufacturer warranty in order to save at max rm150 every 10000km

QUOTE(croydon @ Feb 13 2019, 06:42 PM) google, youtube, fb, group tt eg : how to change fuel filter, how to jack up car, jack points on a car, how change clutch plate, how to change drive shaft, how to change radiator Yea i found a lot, but of course different cars will have different maintenance. Some cars the engine parts are located differently. This is why I'm specifically asking for an axia. Since it is one of the most common cars in Malaysia, it's a wonder there are not more videos on this

Ofcourse , otherwise ppl wont be going to service centre . Depends on luck too . If unlucky lots if things in car goes wrong . Axia known to have air con compressor problems . My rear bearing got changed after 100k mileage . I guess if you want to take the risk, better stop going to service centre frm the start . If halfway the savings might not be much. But things like bearing I guess you can still argue , cos its not related to normal service parts during routine maintenance . But if things like water pump goes bad , thy can deny warranty cos you have changed the coolant at 3rd party workshops

Absolutely, its the case with every new car for the longest of time. QUOTE(bristolmarmite @ Feb 13 2019, 07:04 PM) Ofcourse , otherwise ppl wont be going to service centre . Depends on luck too . Thought they'd usually blame it to wear and tear for the wheel bearing like most other makes.

My seat belt buckle is rattling and making noise . The seat belt is in the list but the buckle is not so its not covered . Axia the warranty is for 5 years or 150k but after 3 years only major parts are under warranty .

I feel if you want to get into diy your own cars, axia is a good choice for a modern car . Its small and not so complicated .

I wouldn't diy service an Axia. The cost at Perodua is quite reasonable.

service at perodua price is quite reasonable. diy got some few risks like : -void warranty, kinda important for new car as theres sure some issue with new car. -risk of purchasing fake engine oil (if you purchase from lazada) -hassel, where to dump your used oil, go buy oil, go buy filter, opening nut tools.
you can go for 3rd party service again, take a look on what they do, whereto open, what oil they use. but normally 3rd party only earn you like 30 bucks labour.

I service my 2016 axia diligently at SC until 120,000km..after that i diy everything at home only
So far never have any problem that I need to claim at SC. So if u want to diy then good idea also...its a simple car with Zero problem from my ownership experience
