Who is he ?
Uwe Boll is a German director, producer and screenwriter of films often adapted from video games. [see picture]

What is unique about him ?
Unlike most directors in the United States, who receive funding from Hollywood studios, he finances his own films through his Boll KG production company.

What movies has he done ?
Boll is most well known for adapting videogames into movies. He has directed and produced a number of such adaptations, among them House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, and BloodRayne. He has announced plans to produce adaptations of Dungeon Siege, Postal and Far Cry. Boll also intends to produce a sequel to Alone in the Dark, and BloodRayne II: Deliverance, as well as a third movie based on the BloodRayne franchise.

So why is he constantly been criticised ?
Boll's movies are critically panned. As of October 25, 2006, all three of Boll's video game adaptations appeared on the Internet Movie Database's Bottom 100 films list. In a review of Alone in the Dark, Rob Vaux states that the movie should make all other "bad" movie directors feel better in comparison.
Alone in the Dark, was "so poorly built, so horribly acted and so sloppily stitched together that it's not even at the straight-to-DVD level."

Any good films from him, then ?
Boll's films prior to the release of House of the Dead received better reception. The New York Times for instance, gave Blackwoods a positive review, although overall reactions to the film have been negative. Boll's film Heart of America was based on the Columbine High School massacre and was praised as having the most mature subject matter of any of Boll's films.

What does he think of the critics and fan ?
"Fans are always totally flipping out and I understand that the fan of a video game has his own agenda in his head and has his ideas about what is a good movie and what is a bad movie." Referring to House of the Dead, Boll said: "I think I made a perfect House of the Dead movie, because it really shows how the game is. It's a lot of fun, it's over-the-top action."

Is there a list of video game movies he had directed ?
- House of the Dead
- Alone In The Dark
- BloodRayne
- Postal [coming soon]

Any upcoming plans of more video game movies ?
- Dungeon Siege
- FarCry
- Alone In The Dark 2
- BloodRayne II : Deliverance
- BloodRayne III

...

Personally, his movies aren't good. But just leave it all behind -- accept his movies as just raw entertainment for the no brainer and you will have fun. After all, he has a fan base in Germany.

You can discuss about..
- your response to adapting video games to movies
- what you personally think of him
- why are there still a number of people still wanting to watch his films
- what video game you wished would be made into a movie

I'd love to see a Fallout or a Planescape: Torment movie. Two of my favourite games of all-time.

But Uwe Boll better stay clear of them, though, otherwise I will personally hunt him down!

I want Uwe Boll to make "Neighbours From Hell : The Movie"
Crappy game always can be pumped-up to be a lot better in a movie.

Boll vs. Michael Bay Boxing Match...

They say he jumped the shark, he spoke too soon... Michael Bay denies agreeing to the match...

BTW, I do think Michael Bay is a pain in the ass sometimes... how he commented about HD DVD/Blu-Ray, and also during the shooting of Pearl Harbor, he got very angry when someone laughed on the set, because according to him, Pearl Harbor is supposed to be a very sad and emotional movie...

Edit : OMG... I didn't even know I opened this thread before... biggrin.gif

He should direct The Sims instead. Then he can do whatever he wants with it.

Absolutely not! I don't know why Uwe Boll is even talking about this kind of thing. We've never talked to him. It's impossible that we'd ever do a movie with him

Even for someone never plays the games before, Me and my friends still think the movie sucks big times.
I was ahem ahemming a weekend pop corn flicks from a chinese sites with the title translated to something else. Didnt notice it was him and half way watching it, my friend getting impatient and after one of the few lame scene with crappy acting, my friends trying to strangle me in angers found that I'm asleep.
After I found out it was him and after reading all his notorious history, I decided to give it a try for another title "Alone in the dark". The same crappy experience except that I watched the whole movie this time.

Added on May 20, 2008, 12:59 pmUwe Boll comments on Indiana Jones.

"On the INDIANA JONES weekend - May 23 - we will go out and destroy INDIANA JONES in the box office!"

"We all know that Harrison Ford is older then my grandpa and his time is up as Michael Moore would say! Its also a duel of two directors. Spielberg gets sloppy. We saw that with WAR OF THE WORLDS and also in parts of JAWS, E.T. and MUNICH. My cameo in POSTAL as a Nazi Theme Park Owner easily outdoes Ben Kingsley performance in SCHINDLERS LIST!"
