Hi guys. Just want to ask.

Last week received my PS4 pro CUH-7106B

Is it worth to change from HDD to SSD?
Planning to change to Samsung EVO 860 500GB.
Mostly game will be played by CD.

And will it void the warranty?

Bigger capacity is better than faster loading time for PS4. A lot of games need have big install size.

1TB to 500GB SSD is an UPGRADE.

I go down that route, for games that has long loading times, I moved them to system storage. Other games are all in my External Storage.

MHW for one with long loading time dropped from 30seconds to 7 seconds for me.

Game Discs are not used once they're installed, they are only used for 1 time "copy" to your PS4 drive, and then the disc is just used as a "key" to start the game, games are still loaded from your hard drive.

Yep. So the games loading time in external storage dropped also?

Loading times for games in external storage should be more or less the same. I have cutscene audio stuttering issue with Ace Combat 7 on external storage, after I move it to my internal SSD drive problem goes away, but I guess most of the games runs fine on external.

I feel its a double edge sword. I easily filled my 1tb storage within a year. You have the advantage of speed with SSD but lose the space. Sure its a non-issue for now.

But I suppose if you already own the SSD, its kinda bad not to utilize it. And seeing SSD is getting cheaper, chances are good it might be more affordable to buy a 1tb by the time yours filled.

Personally, I would love to upgrade mine to SSD, but only anything above 1tb.

Just get an external enclosure and slap the OEM 1TB into it and use it as external drive. Problem solved.

Most of my games are from PSN Store. In other words, they reside on my Hard Disk rather than optical media. After changing to SSD, there's significant improve in loading times. The other question is, what about the reduction in storage capacity? Each game is around 50-70GB. With a 500GB SSD drive, you still can hold at least 5 games. Well, if you delete them, you can always download them back. Just backup the savegame files.

Some games like God Of War or Tomb Raider may not benefit much from it as the developers cleverly hide the loading transition. Unless you do a lot of fast-travel. Huge benefit on fighting games, Fallout and Skyrim.

Replacing disk drives in PS3 or PS4 consoles will not void the warranty, but when you send back the console for warranty purposes it's better to put back the original drive in.

Watch this to decide if SSD is worth it or not :

For me, I replaced my PS4 Pro HDD immediately after unboxing with Seagate Firecuda 2TB :

Using SSHD when playing Monster Hunter World with 3 other squadmates, I'm always the 1st to load into the map when the squad launches the mission.

Yeah SSHD seems to be the best middle ground. I don't need one yet but it will be my choice when the time comes.

The stock 1TB HDD in the ps4 pro is utter trash... 8MB cache and 5400RPM speed so to go SSD its an upgrade. You have other choices instead of the Samsung Evo which is the Crucial MX500 Else a SSHD is a good alternative.

Mine I have upgraded it with a 500GB SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD as primary and a 2TB Seagate Baraccuda 3.5" 7200RPM HDD as my external smile.gif
