Sorry for lately here, basically you have to allocate partially of your operation at designated area at cybercities or cybercentre.
You do not have to rent a space at this moment in order to to apply MSC Malaysia Status.

To qualify for MSC Malaysia-status, applicants must meet the following criteria:

-Be a provider or heavy user of multimedia products and services.

-Employ a substantial number of knowledge workers.

-Provide technology transfer and/or contribute towards the development of the MSC Malaysia or support Malaysia's k-economy initiatives.

-Establish a separate legal entity for the MSC Malaysia qualifying multimedia business and activities.

-Locate in a MSC Malaysia designated cybercities.

-Comply with environmental guidelines.

hI,do you mind to tell more about your company ?

Anyway, all MSC Malaysia Status companies are eligible for no income tax for up to 10 years or an investment tax allowance, and no duties on import of multimedia equipment.

MSC Malaysia Status will enjoy the benefits of :

-No censorship of the Internet.
Does this means that when the company has MSC status, they can be allowed to surf all anti-government websites, porns, and even swisscash/ponzi sites which was banned from public viewing years ago? unsure.gif

The other good thing for small IT setup to apply MSC is you get all sort of Freebies from giant IT house like Sun, Microsoft etc. especially on trainings and MS products.
My company is entitled to free copies of win7 profession; ms office '07, etc.etc.etc.
Sun is providing free trainings on Java skillsets etc.etc..

There are plenty of 'virtual' companies here.. Many of them registered an office here in cyber but operation is run somewhere else!

In term of reality, MSC status won't do any good for your company if your business' main market is not inside Malaysia.

I am an investor of 2 MSC status companies which had failed, I am speaking from experience.

Jeff Yeo has really poor command of English and yet he is "consulted" by MDec (a government owned company).

I know this borders on a personal attack but in my defence, I don't know him personally and my purpose is to point out that MSC's failures is due to one thing: Government incompetence.

There is no annual fee but there is a 1 time fee upon application. And the reason you cant share office is because you have to produce the tenancy agreement with a minimum of 1,000 sq feet size.

I have managed to get my MSC status approved last 2 years and did it without a consultant. So if you all have any questions please feel free to post it here. The process is very tedious and a lot of documentations & interview is involved. So if you are not good at that then a consultant becomes handy because it can be tedious and time consuming.

The benefits aren't that great - 5 years tax exemption + another upon approval. There is about 10 bills of guarantee which may or may not be beneficial to you. Basically the thing about free software and free internet is emm.. non existence. So dont believe everything you hear.

Can I check several things?

1) PRE-APPLICATION

When we fill in the pre-application form, there is a section at the bottom that says:

"Propose activities in the MSC Malaysia"

I would assume we fill in the future plans of development/ R&D activities etc. Am I right?

2) PROCESS FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

Registration evaluated and if the pre application is approved, then an MDeC analyst will be assigned to the company. The flow chart states that a 3 years business and financial plan must be submitted online. However it didn't entail what are the components inside the business and financial plan that we must write. Will the analyst inform when the pre application is successful?

The flowchart also mention evaluation of technical and commercial aspect of the business plan so I believe these must be part and parcel of the proposal. But what are the other components to include?

3) PROCESS FOR FORMAL APPLICATION

Hmmm I assume here that the internal assessment is approved by respective analysts thus this step. The website says to:

- submit 3 copies of business plan
- Application Form
- ROC documents
- 3 year audited report of substantial stakeholders of the company
- A non-refundable processing fee of RM2,000 to MDeC

My questions:
a) the 3 copies would be the previous business plan proposed? so we make 3 copies via hard copy for submission?
b) a new application form? will the analyst provide to us or is it available in the wizard site?

Another question is on the benefit of MSC Status. Basically is there a grant that we can apply for overseas business expansion? Eg. Company wants to venture into new overseas market so is there a grant that could assist with the setup? Because so far I see there's only the IP Grant, R&D Grant (which is closed for now), Funding in terms of borrowing from BN in RM or foreign currencies up to a certain amount.

Lastly ^^; (sorry for the lengthy questions), in which stage does the interview(s) come in? There's no mention in the flow chart...?
