i have this WD30EZRX that used since 2015, and yesterday was still okay. i also preoridacally check all my drives health and was reported 'Good'.

then all of a sudden, my pc shut down and restart on its own. when back into Windows , i cant find my WD30EZRX drive. It doesnt show in Disk Management and Device Manager too. then i restart , checked in Bios , it was there but it shows like this.

is it dead for good? insides are just anime and manga.

Change SATA and/ or power cable. You can swap the cable or port location on board.

Can you run WD Data Lifeguard for DOS?

You may want to test your disk here by using this tool icon_idea.gif

Then the drive has really failed. It is not uncommon to have drives that detect perfectly by BIOS but cannot be recognized or partitioned by OS.

All hard disk are about the same these days. Every brand is moving the consumer technology development to SSD. The hard disk technology development is still active for enterprise storage though. So at RM2xx for 1.0TB, practically only left SG or WD and sometimes HGST or TOSHIBA.

you must be new to the pc hardware, wd and sg both are same shit sweat.gif
for Seagate you obviously never heard about their 7200.11 firmware fiasco.

WD green and red was shit too.

there's no best hdd maker, you just need to backup regularly to avoid disaster.

All HDD are almost the same when it comes to reliability. I have 2 1TB WD in NAS still running from 2011 until now.

Maybe you just unlucky or the power interruption caused your HDD failure

Cheapo hard drive does that frequently.

I had a couple of green doing the same thing. Strangely my Black has been working fine for the past 5 years with one exception where I forgot to off my PC before plugging in the power. Saw a spark and it was gone. Luckily RMA was a success.

oh... isn't green like it's runs lower, uses less energy, hence it's name ' Green '?

the new one is blue...

people says that Made in Malaysia ones from 2011 onwards like that has poor quality control and those Made in Thailand are better ones...

wow... that's nice... there's no power interruption, it just went dead , since hdd is very sensitive , when it died, the system shut itself off and try to restart itself 2 times before going into Windows only then i found out one my 3TB drive is dead (0.0GB)...

I had one case where I finished copying the whole hdd onto a new green wd. Unplug the new green and let it rot in the drawer for 3 years. Guess what, 3 years later, all the data are gone. It wouldn't even read. Luckily it's only anime.

Before using a new hdd, normally I burn-in errorscan first. After that, only start using but sometimes damm unlucky the hdd breakdown later.

This sometrimes due to manufacturer defect or cause by transportation which even burn-in test cant detect. But sometimes also because while running, got power spike, power failure, not to mention vibration cause by nearby place doing constructon or rennovation also can cause hdd to breakdown.
