Any body has experience with this lens? Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO
Also I have read a couple of times that 3rd party lens tends to spoil easily due to Sony's powerful motor. Anybody can comment on this?
Good or not? Judge by yourself.
C&C from Alpha Club, Malaysia.Pics right belongs to original poster! The best thing for you is to pick a lens and test it. Each lens has inherent characteristics, whether good or bad.
Like albnok mentioned, I love my Sigma 24-70. It's affordable and I use it for commercial shooting assignments all the time. I usually go with the 80/20 rule. If a particular lens can give me the 80% of the features I need compared to a higher specced and naturally costlier lens, then I'm all for it. By understanding your lenses capability you can adjust your shooting style. If you have loads of cash to plonk then get the faster more expensive ones. Buy the best you can afford.
At the end of the day it's still the photographer and not the equipment that counts. Everyone has their opinions on which lens has technical prowess and features but I think sometimes it deludes the point.
Here's some shots unprocessed and just resized for my web gallery. This is a lens which has often been criticized for not being sharp. Take a look and see if it's sharp enough for ya...

The next three were shot at night in a pub during one of my friend's performance. All using available light and Albert can attest to the poor lighting setup that night as well. *hehehehe* I'd say pretty good for an f2.8 lens in a very low-light situation.
