Hello,

So I've recently changed my Myvi's front tyres and the steering wheel felt loose after that. Went and did alignment and it's back to normal stiffness.

However, my friend tried driving my car before and he asked why is the steering wheel stiff compared to his own Myvi.

I've also driven Estima, Camry and BMW 5 series (all several thousand kilometres driven, not test drive) before and never noticed the difference in steering wheel stiffness, so I can assume all of them had similar stiffness.

May I know how stiff or loose are steering wheels suppose to be? Should I advise my friend that maybe his car's steering wheel is suppose to be stiffer?

Please advise. Thank you.

Try checking the power steering fluid level.

Else need to send to a mechanic to further check on the steering.

some car have weighted feels ( usually sports car ), some car is light as fuck despite how huge it is ( mpv ), so no, not all cars are equal.

Is your Perodua Myvi comes with the EPS? Electronic Power steering or the older model. To be the right adjustment, it should have some grip for control of handle of the car. It shouldn't be too loose at there might be a few things to look about.

Try checking on a few things:
1) Check if the steering rack is tighten properly.
2) Check the fluid level of the power steering or the thickness of the oil, and ask yourself, have you change it before?

Electric steering generally lack feedback and is light, however, most of the light steering is caused by improper tire pressure, worn suspension parts.

1) This car/mpv equip with Eletric Assist Power Steering.. It feel same regardless your speed.. 100kmh or 200kmh

2) Myvi (if not lagi best model) equip with normal power steering where stiffness will decreased when your speed increased. You can adjust to be lighter but beware at high speed cause it will become more lighter than normal/lower speed.

Those based on my exp with my own car.. Wira (normal pwr steering) Vs T.Wish ZGE20 (electric assist)..

Most probably because usually the tire shop will pump the pressure too high, thats why u feel the steering wheel light. Just adjust it to the correct amount. Or maybe you were driving with a low pressure tire all these while.

Which gen of Myvi? 1/2 or 3? Anyway, if you had driven a 5 series and did not notice the difference in steering feel, I think it's safe to save you're not a car person lol.

Each manufacturers target different market/kind of drivers and hence different steering setup. Generally, hydraulic powered steering feels much heavier and more "mechanical". It has more feedback from the road surface. Some people like it some do not. Cars nowadays have moved on to electric powered steering. Now this is where the setup can change drastically from one brand or even specific model, to another. I noticed Japanese cars (except Mazda) tend to be much lighter, especially city cars and not much of feedback. I personally hate that because it's too light, especially at high speed. It's like driving on a cheap game controller.

Having said that, the front tire width can also affect the steering stiffness. Wider tires have more contact area and hence need more force to steer.

So to answer your question, there is no single absolute answer. The question you ask should probably be is your Myvi steering behave the same as other Myvi of the same gen? AFAIK, gen 1 has hydraulic steering which feel heavier. Gen 2 and 3 have electric which has variable stiffness, but overall it's lighter than gen 1.

test with the same model if u want to compare. different model/car will give different feedback and feel.
