in my cell, we had a rule, everyone must take a shower at least once a day. And we made the newcomers wash the cell and toilet every week. my cell was relatively clean because of that. but other cells were just nasty.

i had connections, i can get anything inside if i wanted.
long term inmates had box. i kept mine in my box. we didn't have pillows lah, my friend. those inmates without a box kept their stuff in plastic bags.
officer. basically if anyone in the cell had problems, they came to me for help. mostly arguments, borrow food, borrow medicine etc etc.
