upgraded to 500Mbps but max speed i could get over wifi 2.4g is only around 120Mbps. 5g under 100...

alcatel btu + tplink wdr4300 + tl-wdn4800 pci.

yesterday bought 30m of cat6 cable to test wired speed but only manage to get around 250Mbps.

is there anything wrong with the router because i think it should be capable to deliver 500Mbps over wired connection. or 30m is too long for that speed?

was thinking of hire a handyman over to do a wired connection from router to pc room upstairs but now i have 2nd thought. i figure that would be cheaper than upgrade to a high end router + pci card. if i'll have to upgrade for full speed even on wired then i might as well go wireless right?

any advice? thanks in advance.

What about the cable between BTU and Router?

Try a wired LAN file transfer between 2 PCs?

TP-Link WDR4300 doesn's support AC Wifi. Wired speed, I'm not sure why it can't get 500mbps when TP-Link claims it can support upto 800mbps. Have you updated the firmware?

yes, it's only a n750 router. on paper its max wifi speed: 5GHz: 450Mbps; 2.4GHz: 300Mbps, hence 750 but those are irrelevant because i am on wired connection. it has 4 gigabit LAN ports.

Looks like time to upgrade. Similar routers with the same CPU, AR9344, has a max routing speed of 300-400Mbps. 250Mbps IRL for you sounds reasonable.

Doesn’t matter that it has gigabit LAN ports. It is throttled by its old hardware as I say. Get a better router with newer and better hardware, and you will be okay.

thanks for the reply too. definitely looking to upgrade for better wifi speed.
