Can someone suggest the cheapest GE router which supports Unifi 500Mbps?

No need AC router as I already have Tenda AC11 which acts as AP since I cannot configure it as router for Unifi.

Thanks!

Click the link on my signature and see list of recommended routers. You will need an AC router to even attempt to hit 500Mbps. It won't be cheap.

If you see 1st page, 1st post, green text, you will see that the router you mentioned has lots of problems. I suggest testing with another router. Get your own.

I know la. You don't really need a powerful and expensive router, but even on wired, and if you have a cheap router with gigabit ports, the speed will still be throttled by the hardware of the router i.e. you won't get full gigabit speed.

WTF are you on about?

If you are working for a router distributor and provide tech support for their products, I suggest you stick to those forums instead of giving lame excuses to justify and promote unnecessary/exorbitant router purchases here!

If it's just for hitting 500Mbps on ethernet, not really necessary for a canggih router. My old RB750GL from 2011 can hit 500Mbps. Most important have hardware NAT, CTF, Fasttrack, etc (many different names). Even the cheapo ones from TM also can. 800Mbps no problem.

However when you start using the router for more functions such as QoS, rate limiting, vlans, traffic monitoring, etc... then you need a faster router.

This one will probably struggle once I start pushing it. It's already at 80% CPU usage for 500Mbps.

Mikrotik RB750GL from 2011. With Fasttrack (hardware NAT/CTF) ON. CPU Usage: ~80%. Tested on Turbo 800Mbps.

A newer one will fare much better.

Mikrotik hAP AC2. 800Mbps with Fasttrack (hardware NAT/CTF) OFF. CPU usage: 100%.

I should have explained better and as soonwai explained properly, if you are using it just for basic functions, you don't need anything good. My bad.

However, in saying that, you seem to have a negative perception of me, and I am definitely not working for any distributor nor reseller. For your information, I am not trying to justify or promote unnecessary/exorbitant router purchases, but as the OP of this thread, I have seen questions where people are trying to get the best speed but using a less than capable router, so I am only suggesting a router which can support their speed.

By the way, don't accuse me of anything that you do not have evidence of. You can't just say that I am working for a distributor or reseller if you don't know me at all in real life. Cheers.

Unifi port full, or what?
Since your many neighbours already got it, you may talk to any of them to share their line, and share their cost. I for one wont mind if my neighbour approaches me.

yes, one of my colleague dun even have Streamyx. She applied for Streamyx and after the installer came to check, the speed is too low, so installation cancelled. After nearly 7 years of waiting, finally she manage to apply for Unifi early this month and just been informed this weekend will come to install.

Another colleague not so lucky. His situation similar to you - the other 2 streets next to his already has Unifi, just his street doesn't have. Up to today still stuck with unstable Streamyx. He said he will wait until end of this month to terminate Streamyx. rclxub.gif

does look like streamyx users aren't getting much or anything.

unifi, possibly with some exceptions, can say it is done.

however, we r still waiting... what price for new contracts for 300, 500 mbps?

that is the curious thing.

I'm on 800Mbps. Have not experience a situation where the IP address makes a difference, yet. I've been assigned most IP address ranges except for 42.x.x.x.

Hi, I am on 500Mbps (RM179 +st) and 300Mbps (Rm169+st) Unifi plan recently.. As my home equipment archer c5 and old route rcan support roughly to 100Mbps, i find it is very wasted to pay so much but under utlised.

Both of my lines have finished serving their contract, I would like to change to RM129 package. The other line is my parents and they would like to add on for unlimited free land line calls and the tvbox, i heard you can add RM10 for each of these service but i couldn't find them online.

I would like to retain my current router, should i terminate my current plan and reapply? or should i just change my plan by dealing through their customer service.

Should give a though on Maxis too i guess
