LAN connected should be good. But if your devices rely on WiFi, not really recommend.

of course. LAN (wired) is the best option. if wireless can attain 100Mbps, wired certainly can also and can in fact do much much better job.

Hi guys,

My equipment specification as below.

BTU: ONU-HUAWEI-HG8240w
Router: RG-DLINK-WBR2300
Plan: Unifi Turbo 300Mbps
Device: Laptop / iPhone
Device spec: 802.11ac Dual Band with 2x2 MIMO 867Mbps

I just checked my old router wireless settings. It seems like it does not support dual band and can only support 2.4GHz 802.11n with bandwidth 20/40MHz (maximum link speed 144.4/300Mbps). Speed test result get maximum around 80Mbps regardless of bandwidth selection 20/40MHz.

My laptop LAN port supports Gigabit connection. When I connect my laptop to the router LAN port using CAT6 cable and it shows 100Mbps link speed only. I read the first post green text and found that this router model is not included in the green text. So does it mean that this router does not support gigabit speed on LAN?

I also tried to connect my laptop directly to the BTU using CAT6 cable. The link speed shows 1Gbps. However, it seems like there is no internet access and I have no idea how to access to the BTU GUI webpage. Is this normal?

I suspect the router is the bottleneck. If this is the case, I might need to upgrade the router. Anyone can confirm this? Thanks in advance.

You should be grateful to be able to get close to 80Mbps over 2.GHz band as most users here only get around 50Mbps.
The router you have mentioned doesn't even have a gigabit port there's no way you could get more than 90Mbps if you also consider the overhead.

You can't access the internet directly through the BTU.

It obviously does not support gigabit LAN. There is a reason why I wrote that you need to change it if you are still using any of the older models. Refer back to the 1st page, 1st post, green text, and get a router that is MUCh better than your current one.

Thanks!

My Ethernet network is 1.0Gbps.

Will troubleshoot the cables next. It just strange though, a CAT5e cable performs like a CAT5 (100Mbps and below).
Is this common? Surely a number of people who has been upgraded still using cat5e provided by TM, meaning some of us should have reported similar issues that has become aware of?

At this point I'm happy for any solutions. I narrow it down that it's router or cable related, TM has confirmed to me they already unlocked the bandwidth remotely on their side, and I spent time over the weekend learning how to configure the btu, and it's surely 1gbs.

Hi Gentlemen,

Decided to buy an Asus GT-AC5300, so did some survey at online shopping site. Cheapest I've found is RM1650. Eventhough it's 5 years warranty, reseller mentioned can only change 1 time only for warranty if faulty. The rest is selling RM1.9k above.

So here goes my question:

1. How prone does this router on being faulty?

2. Since its 5 years warranty, I should be able to make claim everytime its faulty within 5 years right?

3. Which reseller and price is the best to go with? Any recommendations?

Thanks guys.

Test with another router, and another cable.

1. Hard to tell.

2. Yes. Directly claim with Asus if possible.

3. You have to do your own research, and make sure it is Asus Malaysia unit.
