Hi Rocketm,

Have you found a cloud accounting software yet?

Not sure if you've heard of Xero. I've got some friends who thought of using Financio but went for Xero instead.

Hi reds_nhgz,

I am using cloud based accounting software called Quickbooks. However, my boss feel that it is expensive to use it as monthly the company need to pay RM 98.00.

Since it is foreign based company, thus we need to pay for the imported service tax which is 6% of the monthly subscription fee. I am not sure whether we need to pay for the withholding tax or not.

I am thinking off switching to Financio but I heard that it has some drawback when using it.

I heard about Xero too but it is an ERP system. Yet, our company is operating in small scale thus it might not suitable.

May I know what is the reason your friend not using Financio at the end?

My main consideration would be the flexibility and cost to port out when you don't want to continue using this cloud based system.

There are lots of advantages using cloud based software. For one you don't need to tinker with hardware. Means you also save time hiring IT guy to fix system issues and so on.

Think of these kind of indirect cost when you are evaluating any cloud based SaaS.

As for accounting, make sure you can manually backup the data yourself. It can be backup to another cloud where you can download the data anymore.

Also, for those fearing data stolen or other security stuffs. There a lots of security features in place that can reduce chances of data getting stolen. Even if you do it on premise also can be stolen.

End of the day, you need to weight the pros and cons. Personally, I am pro cloud. I do not see what is the big issue about data security if it is managed well.
