Hi, health misfortune hit my family like hell. My baby has health issue and suddenly now my husband has painful on his side. Went to clinic this morning and was told he has kidney stone. Is going to hospital for further diagnose is the next step? He was prescribed medication that hopefully can clear the stone. Should he take it and wait or just head straight to hospital?
He has insurance covered but only if hospitalized or surgery done.

before any medication/procedure is prescribed/carried out to clear the stone, they need to find out if it caused by calcium or uric acid stone or something else.
so upon confirming the type of stone, they will advise accordingly. sometimes it could be just many fine stones that can be cleared via medication too.
as mentioned above, its best to go to the private hospitals and seek end to end tests/medication/treatment
if you suspect its due to high uric acid , keep drinking lemon water(look it up)
nevertheless , keep hydrating

Just called a private hosp nearby and made an appt with urologist. He won't be taking the clinic medication first until the consultation with the urologist.

usually they will give pain killer n ask u whack tons of water... if after 3 hours when painkiller wears off still pain... then they will recommend for sonic boom to destroy the stones.... after that's done and pain goes off... usually stone will get pee out... hopefully non gets stuck at the urinary tract... if pee out then have to do ultra sound to confirm no more stones and kidney in good condition... if stone doesnt get destroyed then surgery is needed to remove it.. stones can damage kidney permanently

QUOTE(marcosmith120 @ Feb 5 2019, 02:52 PM) hello lowlowc, First of all,you have to consult your doctor with which type of kidney stones in your baby.If your hausband have a insuarance then you have to consult your best neurosurgeon about kidney stone. If they said surgery or give any medication then you follow it. Not neurosurgeon. It’s called urologist.
