For transport, I would get
1. Narita Express return ticket
2. 3 day + 3 day + 1 day Pass for Tokyo Metro
3. Hakone day pass

Are these passes able to cover all my transport needs in Tokyo?
*
first time travel to tokyo with 4yo? if yes, i suggest 1 set (2 pcs of 72h metro pass for both u and ur wife) is enough, buy suica card n reload, try not to save on jr lines coz most place is more convenient with jr. if u take tk metro, it going to waste ur time (don't get me wrong, if no kids is fine.. maybe my daughter nags me too much). add on, try to reduce ur destination coz u are traveling with stroller, some places will have hiccups with long stairs especially subway. ur 4yo will be sleeping and it will slow u down. if u didn't bring stroller, u going to be winner.

Yup first timer here.

Yup no plan to bring stroller until your statement "u going to be winner". Why so?
*
base on your itinerary, u going out whole day. your son/daughter 4yo, sure need to rest for tht long walk.. no stroller no place to sleep (not sure how u overcome this, perhaps u have better plan?

Not sure if robot restaurant is such a good idea for 4 year old kid. Or kabukicho for that matter cos many of the eateries will be cramped, noisy, smoky izakayas.
*
i personally do not recommend robo cafe for 4yo

@ntdote

u were saying lack of kids activity, i may suggest u to try ueno zoo. another great place for leisure walk even in the zoo tht never looks like a zoo, more like a park to me.

because the whole itinerary was a copy & paste from Page 1 Post 1 wink.gif

ntdote what's shared on Pg1 was merely a guideline. Each person has to adjust it based on their liking, travelling style and companion(s). Don't follow exactly because i can guarantee you won't be able to visit all the places. Pick and choose your priorities, add in your own attraction/ must-do.

is lucky tht he asked here, i been to tokyo for 14nights with my 1yo autumn 2017 n i face a lot of hiccups even typhoon 😱. lucky my itinerary got plan a, b c to z depending on situation. is a great journey i can say

That's right! If your family consists of elderly and/or children, there's a lot more prep needed. Just screenshot the Embassy's info and keep it - never know when it can come in handy. Also check out some basic know-hows on what to do during emergency. Japan is prone to natural disaster so the trip could turn up eventful when you least expected it. Thus don't over rely on card, as electronic device may fail during those times (eg. machine unable to accept credit/ debit card etc). Keeping spare cash with you at all times is crucial.
*
is this msg on page 1 also? if no, i guess is better to put on page 1 👍🏻. u r right saying don't rely on device, treat it as bonus when it works. added, cash is the no. 1 backup.

LOLL it's not on Page 1 laugh.gif don't rely 100% on device. Japan is still quite cash-based. Mom and pop shops don't accept cards. Then again, isn't cash always the number 1 backup anywhere? hmm.gif
*
of coz cash is the best and number 1 globally. added for japan, pls bring coin pouch, u will need it, definitely needs it. don't rely on electronic payments but as an option yes. even google maps n connectivity will have hiccups, i bring along information hard printed copies 3 set, 1 for wife 1 for me n 1 put inside luggage.

quite risky

my experience:

i also landed in kansai around 9:30pm...

when the plane door opened, i wasn't the first to exit...but i zigzag thru crowds with 50kmph, passed thru immigration and reached klook counter before 10pm

but don't attempt if you don't have confidence on your speed and evading skills
*
thts super risky, unless he got backup plan b.. means get the pass on the next day in town nearest tourist centre.

Hi guys, I am currently planning a family trip to Japan on the last week of December.

My question is, is it too risky if I plan a day or two for ski resorts? What if there is no snow?

Appreciate if anyone can send me their past itinerary for my own research purpose too! cheers.gif

japan which part?

I'm planning Tokyo -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Any available ski resort at that time then back Tokyo and fly back to Malaysia..
Hmm, seems risky.. Then I think I'll need a backup plan if the snow is insufficient. Hopefully get to experience skiing this year  rclxm9.gif

not sure about tokyo, my recent research found in rokkosan snowpark, kobe is west of osaka (ard 40km away from osaka station ).. u can google abit for more info.

btw, i will be at osaka for this late December too. celebrate xmas n new year in osaka.

Hi guys,

This going to be my 2nd trip to Japan. 1st time is Tokyo, now I'm planning for Osaka this coming Christmas eve 2019 to early 2020. As my first trip I'm traveling with baby girl and now she's toddler 3yo for my coming trip, my plan is like no other because I can't rush due to my daughter. However, like last time everything is planned and it works great with the help of informative LYN forumer.

I have few questions like to ask by any chances u guys experienced it before?

1. have anyone's drive from Osaka station area to Rokkosan Pasture, Kobe before? any advice for driving in late autumn or early winter?

2. anyone drive from Osaka Station to Nara (whole day trip) before? I need advice for parking cost or area to park. As I'm renting kimono for wife n daughter so I'm looking for driving option because i need to drive to high ground area to take pictures.

3. any idea where to go for Christmas eve? (I'm staying near osaka station) *and I'm family 👪 of 3 with a 3yo*

4. any idea where to go for 2020 new year eve? (I'm staying near osaka Station)*and I'm family 👪 of 3 with a 3yo*

Ok for now, thanks again.

i went to osaka during christmas last year. family trip with 70+yo parents. same thing cannot rush. so 1 day 1 place to visit only.
1st day train to Nara,
2nd day train to Himeji,
3rd day train to Inari & Arashiyama Bamboo,
4th day drive to kanazawa,
5th day drive to Shirakawago then stay at Takayama,
6th day drive Shin-Hotaka ropeway
7th day walk around Takayama then drive back to Kyoto,
8th (Christmas Eve) & 9th day walk around Osaka City & Shopping. Christmas Eve walk around Namba area everyone wear christmas stuff lo... you can see a lot japanese girl wear sexy Christmas wear la... but dont think you can see a lot if with your wife la... hehe... & I dont think japan have a lot of firework countdown event. normally just party & go temple like that. maybe some light show to watch. Cox this year i will be in tokyo for New Year ask before but seem dont have firework show unless you go to the theme park like disneyland or USJ.
10th day Balik

dont think there will be show in osaka or kobe gua... driving that time should be ok d. i drive till shirakawago & takayama only got snow. not heavy snow la... drive carefully lo... i did use snow tyre la...

anyway i just let you know my itinerary la... mayb different from you. since you wanted to drive i just think sometimes a trip away from major city is also fun & relax d. less crowded also.
*
nice, this trip i'm going to stay for 14N at Fukushima itself, some ppl even ask me.. how do i stay in 1 spot for so many days.. i said actually not enough biggrin.gif *really depending on what u like la*. like u said totally no rush at all, 1,2 or 3 places max per day. mostly i going to highlight 1 place to go and after it will be exploring nearby for surprise. i think those eve for xmas n new year i will be going to nearby shopping would do, like u said not much we can do on this dates i assume too after my research.. and u said jap girl with sexy xmas costume? tht would be nice thumbup.gif don't worry my wife will let me look, but just look only.. hahahahha..

the driving part, maybe i should just ask the car rental place.. i guess they will give me best advice though. i only need it for the rokkosan trip coz if ride public transport takes a lot to change.. i need to ride train > bus > cable car > bus just to reach 1 place >.< .. added i also don't wants to rush the back home time.. so driving is my only option, just that i did not drive in late autum or early winter in this high area before, like u say drive slowly should do the job. thanks for ur information!

going with 5yo in tokyo?
u can try disney land (i will not recommend disneysea for ur 5yo unless u r fan of disneysea la, coz ur 1 week not really enough) , ueno zoo & akachan shopping (if u planning to have another baby, a lot baby stuff biggrin.gif)
the rest is major famous tourist spot and shopping area which u can easily google and listed top10

Yup thanks. I know 1 week not enough that's why only going the top top spot only.
Initially wanted to go Disneyland and sea, but after googled I think Disney sea next round la not so suitable yet although the only Disney sea in the world is in Tokyo. Huhuhu.

Ueno Zoo already in the list. Ghibli museum, but don't know how to buy ticket yet. No time for shopping.

Any suggestion for accommodation?
*
ghibli museum abit troublesome to buy tickets coz is very limited, if u insist, u need to go their official website and see the date to buy tickets online on certain date a month before if I'm remembered it correctly. on the date and time, u will need to sit infront computer and hunt ur tickets purchase. never buy tickets in tokyo or at the museum coz i doubt it will available.

A, B, C, D are the dates based on the crowd forecast. A is the lowest peak and cheapest entrance fees.
This is a good blog about USJ: https://sightseeandsushi.com/universal-studios-japan-guide/
