Hi,

I will be traveling to Osaka/Kyoto next April with family and planning to travel between Osaka and Kyoto daily.

Do you guys think it is good enough to just get ICOCA for transportation? Or should I buy any other passes?

Have to consider the daily 2 hours traveling time (to and fro) between Osaka and Kyoto which is no joke. Plus also the short day light duration...

It would cost minimum 1600Y or RM60 per person for the traveling expenses (to and fro) and would it be much cheaper for you to stay in Osaka assuming the reasoning for the daily travel between the two cities is due to the more costly hotels in Kyoto?

Staying in Osaka is much cheaper even if added in the traveling cost to Kyoto daily.

But you are right, daily 2 hours traveling is no joke and was also my concern as my parents may not have enough time to rest. So I have changed my plan and will be staying in Kyoto for a few days instead of traveling daily.

Btw, may I know if it is good enough to just use the ICOCA IC card for traveling between Kyoto-Osaka-Nara?

Yeah it's enough. However, be careful when using Google maps to travel to Nara, it asked me to use the limited express where u actually need to purchase a separate ticket costing ¥560 from Osaka on top of the ICOCA. I think you can use the regular trains that don't require the extra fee..

However there was another instance where I took limited express which does not require a separate fee..

Also in Japan there are various trains with similar names so have to be careful. I honestly thought semi express and sub express were the same trains and got on the wrong trains. It was my first time in Japan so I had some issues with the transportation laugh.gif

Ah okok. Thanks for the very useful info. thumbup.gif

I guess I have to do more research on the railway lines before traveling there.

Not yet, need 7 days to process.
Usually is 90days only but due to COVID-19 AA allows 180days. This is what AA live chat agent told me.

Tried submitting via AVA and their request can only accommodate 1 flight for each request. In my case since its a return flight from KUL - Tokyo and Tokyo - KUL, does it mean I have to submit 2 request?
*
If through AVA you have to submit 2 requests for return flight. I suggest you to directly contact their live agent, they can help you to submit all request in one shot.

Best chat with Fellow Allstar.
After waited for an hour and a half in the chat room, finally manage to chat with them!
They gave me the option of moving my flight within the next 90 days. Done everything within an hour. Sigh, too bad can't push till Q4 2020. Advice to get ready all your preferred dates before chatting with them =)
And its a one time FOC change of date only....

So your case is already successful or still pending process?

Last time I chat with AirAsia live chat agent, they helped me to credit account my booking but have to wait 7 days for processing. Today I check the case status it shows closed. ranting.gif
