My question is, is it too risky if I plan a day or two for ski resorts? What if there is no snow?
Appreciate if anyone can send me their past itinerary for my own research purpose too!

Hi guys, I am currently planning a family trip to Japan on the last week of December.
My question is, is it too risky if I plan a day or two for ski resorts? What if there is no snow? Appreciate if anyone can send me their past itinerary for my own research purpose too! |

QUOTE(skydrake @ Mar 17 2019, 06:51 PM) I'm planning Tokyo -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Any available ski resort at that time then back Tokyo and fly back to Malaysia.. QUOTE(quadcube @ Mar 17 2019, 07:49 PM) Depend on which part. Back in 2017, I could start skiing by November but of course, it was the heaviest snowfall in 30 years around my area (Hakusan, Ishikawa). This year winter not much snow, if I remember correctly, mid-late Dec 2018 quite a number of ski grounds (Hakuba, Nagano) are still closed due to insufficient snow, only went to ski around mid Jan 2019. Hmm, seems risky.. Then I think I'll need a backup plan if the snow is insufficient. Hopefully get to experience skiing this year If no snow, can just enjoy ryokan onsen This post has been edited by Waliuuu: Mar 17 2019, 09:00 PM |

Hello dear forumers, I am currently planning a 9D8N trip from Christmas Eve until New Year end of this year. I wanted to seek opinion if the itinerary is viable.
** If I buy whole Japan Rail Pass, for the places I am going to, can it be used? Or I will have to buy other metro line's ticket as well? ** Is a samurai WIFI egg enough for 4 person throughout the trip and Japan? **Is the flow of the trip ok? Anywhere seems too packed/ impossible? **For accomodation, is it wise to just stay at one place and use the metro to get around? Tokyo (2 Nights) Osaka (4 nights) and Hokkaido (2 nights) Would Like to have some opinion from fellow forumers, greatly appreciate any feedbacks, THANKS! » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by Waliuuu: May 13 2019, 07:42 PM |

QUOTE(MR_alien @ May 14 2019, 08:44 AM) i don't think it's a good idea to jump multiple location within 9 days My family are not really shopaholic.. and hence many places we go are just to look around and eat 1. u won't be able to experience fully of 1 place 2. spend too much time on transport instead of exploring 3. cost way too much(JR pass) 4. basically just touch & go(pointless) why not just stay the whole period in tokyo? or split half and half with tokyo and osaka/kyoto and discard hokkaido Also I have adjusted my itinerary taking account of travelling time and possibility the crowd during peak season.. However I am considering of getting 7 Days JR pass to cover Tokyo -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Nagano. Thanks alot for the feedback btw! QUOTE(Omamori_gamaguchi @ May 14 2019, 08:59 AM) Hi Waliu, your travel period is a peak season, Japanese also will having their long holiday, hence chances of shinkansen overly booked is also a concern. Hi, I totally forgot that its peak season when I'm there! Crowd is crazy! Thanks to your recommendation, I have decided to go to Shiga Kogen for ski.1) If you can read Chinese, you can refer to this video and imagine roughly how crowded the Tokyo will be during that season. If you cant, you still can watch based on body language. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2URDCwcuHX4 2) You don't have to go that far (Hokkaido) just to ski, Nagano prefecture also can ski during late December. They are tour groups picking up people (according to my friend who study there, I never experience it yet but you can google it) from Tokyo Station. 3) Tokyo has many beautiful christmas illumination, especially in Caretta Shiodome near Shinbashi station. 4) For your first day, we definitely know it is very hard to make it, because shops in Tokyo close very early, as early as 8pm or 9pm even in Shibuya and Shinjuku, only Izakaya (Japanese bar) and 24 hours shop open till late. 4) if the trip too packed, you can do side trips like Kamakura (also known as Kanto Kyoto), Kawagoe (Cute Edo themed old town in Saitama Prefecture), Hakone (onsen), Kawaguchi and Fujisan area (1/3 chances to see Fuji peak depends on weather) |

QUOTE(_ChAoS_ @ May 14 2019, 08:24 AM) Your first and second day in Tokyo is too packed though. Considering you only reached Tokyo in the late afternoon, i doubt you'll even finish either Shibuya or Harajuku. For the second day, by the time you finish with Ameya Yokocho (Assuming you skip Akihabara), it will already be at night if you're fast enough. Yes.. Thanks for your opinion.. I took some places out as I also think that during the peak season it wouldn't be easy to travel around... Especially the subway QUOTE(-kytz- @ May 14 2019, 10:23 AM) I have the same thoughts too last time, tried to cover Tokyo and also Kansai area in one trip but realised its too rushing. Now in the midst of arranging my itinerary in Osaka (5 nights) and Kyoto (7 nights). Guess I'm too ambitious, trying to cover one whole japan in 9 days lol.. I'll give Tokyo a miss and focus on Osaka/Kyoto more and reserve two days to ski at Nagano. Definitely needed a couple more trips to Japan to discover more Agree with the touch n go, some places might really take time to explore like dotonburi, shinsaibashi and shinsekai. In kyoto, I would really like to take my time to wander the streets of Gion; Hanamokoji Dori, Ninenzaka & Sanenzaka, Gion Shirakawa and the nearby Yasaka Shrine. Kiyomizudera is nearby too but I read its still under construction so I might give this a miss.. Ohh not to mention the beautiful Pontocho Alley! |

Hello guys, I will be going to JP this christmas eve.
I will be landing at Narita going to Tokyo -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Nagano -> Tokyo. I checked the trip and it shows that getting a Whole Japan JR Pass is more worth it. So I found this : https://www.klook.com/en-MY/activity/1420-7...l-pass-jr-pass/ RM 1104 per person. Is it safe and okay to buy through here? After booking I just go to KLIA and pick up my exchange order then I redeem and activate the first time through JR counter and my 7days start from there? |

QUOTE(Monya Meow Meow @ Dec 3 2019, 08:17 AM) Yup, buying through Klook is pretty straightforward. Thanks for the tips! We got our exchange orders in the mail 7 business days after ordering. Just bring the exchange order with your passport to the JR counters when you arrive and exchange it for the actual pass. You don't have to start your 7 days immediately after you exchange, you can tell then the specific date that you want it activated. And you can also reserve your seats for all the rides provided you know the date and time of each ride. |

QUOTE(deodorant @ Dec 11 2019, 12:25 PM) Maybe karuizawa? I got no experience there but from google seems doable as day trip. If you willing to go a little further and stay overnight like in Nagano / Niigata / Yamagata areas then I got more personal experience recommendations. I will be staying overnight in Nagano, Nearby Yudanaka station. Could you recommend me something? I am quite lost lol. I will be arriving in Nagano in noon. Planning to visit nearby attractions like snow monkey park and nozawa onsen. The next day I will be going to Ryuoo Academy for a ski lesson just to try out.. |

QUOTE(deodorant @ Dec 18 2019, 04:30 PM) Snow monkey park 1/2 a day then go back to your ryokan soak onsen and sleep, then next day since you’re planning to go Nozawa Onsen anyway then why not just ski there? ah typo... I meant Shibu Onsen (it's 1km walk from ryokan) I planned exactly as you said. And for the next day, I plan to go to Ryuoo Ski Academy to have a half day lesson and the remaining day for to ski/ walk around. (because they have free shuttle to ski area lol) As for the transportation, I think I will be using Nagaden bus to go around, to yudanaka station and snow monkey park.. |
