A very rough sketch of our itinerary are as follows. We arrive in Osaka on the 16th of November

Osaka
Day 1: Land at Osaka Kansai airport at night.
Day 2 (Osaka Amazing Pass): Dotonburi, Hozenji Yokocho, Shinsaibashi, Osaka Castle, Sakuya Kanohona
Day 3 (Osaka Amazing Pass): Temponzan ferris wheel, Umeda sky building, Museum of Housing & Living, Wonder Cruise
Day 4: Kuromon Ichiba market, Shinsekai, Midosuji shopping street
Day 5: USJ

Nara/Kyoto
Day 6: Nara Deer Park and Todaiji temple and after lunch, travel to Kyoto. Nishiki market and kawaramachi shopping area.
Day 7: Kiyomizudera (optional due to construction), Sannenzaka & Ninenzaka steps, Kodaiji temple, Maruyama park, Yasaka shrine, Gion Shirakawa & Hanamikojidori
Day 8: Philosopher's path, Eikando temple, Nanzenji temple, Daigoji temple, Eikando temple (night illumination)
Day 9: Arashiyama, Gion in the evening/night, Pontocho Alley
Day 10: Kyoto and Sento Imperial Palace, Kinkakuji temple, Kibune/Kurama (worth going?)
Day 11: Fushimi Inari, Tofukuji temple
Day 12: Will be a more relaxing day. To visit places that we missed earlier if any and to finish up any last minute shopping
Day 13: Depart for Malaysia

p/s: Places to visit in Day 7 & 8 are chosen based on proximity to each other.

This is our first time to Japan so we don't really know how much time will be spent on each place.
We dislike the "touch and go" style and we like taking our time to walk around the streets and check out the temples/shrines/shops/restaurants.
We love nature and the lovely sceneries in Kyoto

Do suggest any nice places that we can add into our itinerary. (Eg: Day 10 and 11)

If buy Express Pass will have timed entry.

when i was there, i saw quite alot of people holding express pass(not sure which kind though)
managed to ride most of it except the minions(too long) and those extreme roller coaster ride

Yes, Express Pass also needs to queue.
Minion rides also have timed entry for EP.

oh and back to your sagano train case, since u have the train 5 ticket
if you're travelling from kameoka to arashiyama...it's at the most rear train
so when reach arashiyama and want to disembark, u need to walk all the way to train 3 to disembark(it's a small station)

Cool, then I may not skip this place. It's nearby to my hotel, so I may walk there to check it out.

Talking about the 500 yen pass, can I buy in advance, like today buy for tomorrow? Or I have to drop by everyday to buy?

I'm going to Osaka in January which is next cny. Are 6 days 5 nights enough for an Osaka - Kyoto trip? If going to Osaka alone I afraid spending 6 days there will be quite bored exploring 1 city only.

Is there any card for reload at Hokkaido ? I mean the name. I been to Osaka and use icoca. My icoca I have returned it when back to Malaysia. Where should I get the card? Thank you

I may travel until the last station and disembark (to maximize the experience lol) and take JR train back to Arashiyama.

Some info for travellers travelling to Kanto region

Avoid going to:
- Hakone
- Nagano

As the transportation network to these places have been severely damaged, with no prospect to recover within a few weeks to months

spend more time in kyoto, more things to see in kyoto than osaka
osaka is only mostly namba area and dotonbori
else everything is outside like USJ, kobe

how about Kawaguchigo?

Have to buy on that day itself, but their counter opens quite early about 6(?)-7am so it was no problem for me as I was based across the road from JR Nagasaki.

If ur from Glover area, I recall seeing one these 2 shops got sell the 500yen day pass, not sure if they also sold the 1,000yen Ropeway ticket or not tho

I wanted to stay near JR Nagasaki too but couldn't get any room.
Now I'm thinking how to go out to buy before riding on the tram, hopefully hotel will sell..

Not everyone likes Osaka and it is just a city like mini Tokyo. I have bought the Amazing Pass too.
I personally prefer Kyoto and I think many will feel the same too.

You can try the 2 shops I pointed out. They're just down the road from ANA Crowne Plaza Gloverhill Hotel heading towards Oura tram stop.

But I don't think my hotel is nearby there. I need to ride on tram to get to my hotel from JR Nagasaki.

1. the pass itself is not cheap
2. i got no time to pick it up
3. cannot fully utilize the pass(go to so many places)

u need to spend more days in kyoto, like 4 days...there are alot more things to visit in kyoto than osaka
not just not far
once u arrived at JR arashiyama station, the sagano station is just beside actually(based on google maps)

on the side note, wanna ask something...for those who know japan kit kat well
why the same flavour have packet and box version
the packet version is only sold like 2XX-3XX yen while the box type is fixed 800 yen for all?
any difference between them?
