I haven't plan out my itinerary yet. Generally, just simple leisure travel. The accommodation already settled through AirAsiaGo. I'm thinking of taking just the subways/trains to travel around Osaka city center, no outskirt. First time going to Japan, so I have no idea if I will even buy souvenir as I don't know the price over there.
Travel/transportation = walk and trains mostly, maybe 1-2 cabs but my friends said expensive to take cabs.
Maybe 4 meals at konbini shops, but I don't think I will eat at luxurious or fancy restaurants. Sushi not my type. If estimate, maybe 4k yen per day for meals.
Most likely I go there to see see, take photos, not the food hunter type. Entertainment and entry tickets maybe at most 2 places, but haven't plan yet.
The Universal studio Osaka might be a likely place to visit, so 7.5k yen is needed (last I checked the website is 7.4k yen with tax for an adult).
*
4days in Osaka without going outskirt - might be hard to fill. Without considering USJ, 1 or 2 days actually can cover the essential places like Osaka Castle, Shinseikai, Namba (but then you don't really shops...)

Just booked my trip for next week and look forward to visiting Tokyo.

Have 7 nights in Tokyo and will be staying at Hilton Tokyo for 5 nights, then move on Hilton Tokyo Bay for two nights (will be visiting Disneyland for two days hence thought it was wise to move to Tokyo Bay.

No itinerary plan as yet but definitely wanting to do a day trip to Mt Fuji and also to view cherry blossom. Any suggestion will be much appreciated (we are mainly looking at shopping, food, and perhaps some cultural visit). Also, for public transport within Tokyo, which pass should I buy?

Wanted a longer trip but hotel is unbearably expensive!
*
Peak period for sakura season mah. Sure expensive than normal

Tried searching high and low, even AirBnB, most are far away or simple not worth it.
Yeah i know, but S.O. wants to view Sakura!
Not intentionally... but given the choices that I had, Hilton was the best.
Honestly can't find anything else suitable. Taking our 4 year old with us so convenience is key!
*
Good luck to your S.O. viewing Sakura together with tons of Chinese tourists biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

For Disneyland, you should have 'upgraded' to Disneyland Hotel for the 15-min early entry and perhaps FASTPASS if you take their vacation packages. But $$$$$ la drool.gif drool.gif

Couldnt find a thread on MAS so trying my luck asking here. Does anyone know if cancelling MAS flight can get us refund, if not amount reversal to cc, maybe credit shell like Airasia does?

My sister is goin to Japan this weekend, but her daughter caught with Chicken Pox today, if postponing even how is the procedure with MAS. Anyone with experience can share? Thank you
*
it depends on what fare ticket your sis bought. just go read the terms of your flight ticket class.

and, if paid using CC with travel insurance or your sis got beli travel insurance, I think she might be entitled to claim for compensation as well.

Okay its economy promo tix. Oh yes bought using maybank platinum card already entitle for travel insurance right? I'll look into that as well. Thanks!
*
Looks like some of "Travel Inconvenience" was not covered by Maybank - https://www.maybank2u.com.my/iwov-resources...Platinum_CI.pdf

AFAIK, Economy Promo is not refundable and there might be some penalty to change dates / re-issue. Best to contact MAS and then tell them your situation

*
nowadays not so accurate with all these weird weather pattern

last year I planned my trip for 3-17 April. Initially worried could be late bloom because last year winter was very cold. mana tau sakura opened early and I miss most of it in the early leg of my trip (Tokyo, Kanazawa). Luckily manage to catch full bloom in Takayama.

what u bought from Klook? different passes different method really

usually JR Passes is issued via MCO and then can change at most of the JR ticket office mah. since it's linked to the JR system

unlike those tram, bus, subway passes where Klook just acting like any agent selling those passes.

for e.g. Klook used to have 2 methods of getting the Tokyo Disneyland tickets

1 - They send you a PDF and you self-print the ticket which contains the QR code
2 - You collect the physical entrance ticket from their personel at Maihama station

i bought kansai hiroshima pass, and the Klook agent insisted i can only redeem at KIX counter even though i highlighted many times that my flight will arrive around 9:40pm and won't be able to make it to counter by 10pm.

and the agent kept on repeating "there's nothing we can do, if you can't make it, then return to KIX the following day to collect" x 99 times

i even called HIS counter in KIX to clarify, wasted my money and got the same repeated suggestion

btw for disneyland tickets, can only collect at airports, no longer accept QR scan code at entrance, and yes i have checked with Klook livechat agentS

forgot to mention - i am staying in EM
*
maybe they already run out of quota for the QR scan code biggrin.gif

last time it was issued via Klook HK where I assume they are 1 of the licensed distributor.

just like JTB Malaysia

Hi hi anyone been to Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kagoshima?

Will it be a good idea to rent a car or should I get the JR ALL KYUSHU PASS for 5 days and a JR NORTH KYUSHU PASS for 5 days to go around?

Anyone have any experience care to share and teach me?
*
What’s ur itinerary or plans for Kyushu?

I will recommend just get JR Kyushu passes since most major tourist attractions/cities are connected by trains.

Using 5-day JR North Kyushu Pass, I did 2 day-trip from Fukuoka to Nagasaki and Huis Ten Bosch. Then onwards to Yufuin —> Beppu —> back to Fukuoka.

Going to Nagasaki from Fukuoka takes about 2hr by train, so I can’t imagine how long will it takes to drive...

arrive is not a big problem

not sure how convenient regarding the bus station, heavy luggage coming back, maybe taxi is more convenient for me
*
What time is your flight back?

Since AirAsia flight is quite early, I just took a taxi to go to the airport. Fare around 1400yen.

As for arriving, just take a bus since it’s the most convenient. Taking subway, you need to take shuttle bus to domestic terminal first

my flight 7.55am FUK-KUL, risky to take the earliest subway to airport? i staying near Hakata Station
*
Earliest subway is around 6am and I think you arrive at Domestic terminal. Then you have to take free shuttle bus to transfer to International terminal.

Should be ok I guess. Immigration checkpoint only open around 6.45am-7.00am since it’s not a 24-hr airport. Expect the queue to be long...

I also stayed near Hakata Station but took taxi for the convenience. Paying around 1400yen vs. 520yen for subway fare (for 2)

Has anyone used their Maybank Visa Debit Card to withdraw cash in Japan ATM? How`s the rate like?

For example 10,000 yen now is around RM385. I guess around RM8 will be deducted from Maybank and the exchange rate follow the  Selling TT/OD rate of  `Foreign Exchange Counter Rates`?
*
You probably get better rates from using BigPay

Thanks. I have never heard of BigPay but just read its FAQ. So basically I transfer RM20 to my BigPay account and I will receive the BigPay card in my Malaysian home address, then I bring this card to Japan and can withdraw yen in ATM in Japan?
*
Yeap, but u need pre-load your BigPay from either ur banking account or credit card.

go to Japan and just withdraw from any ATM (since most ATM support the Mastercard Cirrus network). Preferably 7-11 Sevenbank ATM since there won't be extra charges (beside BigPay RM10)

Not sure if I need it but the unlimited ride seems like quite a good deal
We will visit mainly the usual tourist places, might use the Osaka Amazing Pass as it includes the admission fee as well

So if visiting Kyoto/Kobe/Nara/USJ, it is better to use the prepaid card?  My trip is 7 days, 1 day allocated for USJ and 1 day for departure to KUL, so 5 days to spend visiting places around Kansai..
*
You should list down all the normal fares for your itinerary first. Then compare it with passes and see whether it's worth or not.

The common trap ppl fall into is they try very hard to make full use of those passes, but making themself inconvenient in the process.

QUOTE(zeronova @ Jul 29 2019, 03:52 PM)
Hey everyone, I am going to Osaka in October. Still quite conflicted on which train to take from Kansai Airport (KIX) to Osaka.

There are 2 main choices now:
1) ICOCA/Haruka package costing = 4600yen round trip (inclusive of 2000yen ICOCA purchase)
2) Nankai Airport Express costing =  3840 yen = 1840 round trip (920 one way) + 2000yen ICOCA

Is there any reason to use ICOCA/Haruka package when Nankai Airport Express costs less? I am planning to use ICOCA to travel around Osaka (and USJ), Kyoto and Nara only.

Also, is RM 3,000 for expense enough in Osaka? Exclude accommodation and USJ ticket since they are already paid for before the trip.
*
If u stay in Namba, just take Nankai. Bring u straight to Namba

Hi. I'll be going to Japan for the first time this October and pretty much have my itinerary sorted out. Just few headaches which I need to seek help from the sifus here.

Day 1: Arrival at Haneda @ 10:30pm. was planning to catch 0:20 bus to Kyoto but 2nd thought, I'm afraid can't make it as I dunno the time taken at the airport. If flight delay, worse. So best plan should be staying at the capsule.

Day 2: Take shinkansen hikari with JR pass to Kyoto

Day 3-5: Touring around Kyoto & Osaka (use Kansai area pass)

Day 6: From Kyoto, go to Kawaguchiko + shop at Gotemba outlet for half day

Day 7: Day tour at Kawaguchiko

Day 8: Hakone day trip - back to Tokyo by night (last day of 7 days JR pass)

Day 9: Visit Disneysea

Day 10-12: Touring around Tokyo areas e.g. Asakusa, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Ginza, Tsukiji market, Ikebukuro, Shibuya etc. will buy 1 day pass each day

Day 13: Last round of touring during day time and return to KL at night

Headache #1: Is it worth it to buy JR Pass 7 days + Kansai area pass?

Headache #2: What transport option to take (cost + time efficient way) from Kyoto to Kawaguchiko? Seems not many people sharing how to travel from Kyoto to Kawaguchiko.

I do see people recommend to take shikansen hikari from Kyoto-Mishima-Gotemba-Kawaguchiko: around 5 hours total; need to pay 1510 yen for the bus from Gotemba to Kawaguchiko - can somebody advise if this is the best way?

Thank you!!
*
Sifus here will advise don't mix Osaka/Kyoto and Tokyo. Or fly-in and out with different airports (KIX and Haneda/Narita) so that you only need to travel 1-way. Anyway answer to your questions

1. Yes for JR pass. A round trip between Osaka/Kyoto-Tokyo is probably almost equal to your JR pass price
2. You can take Shinkansen to Odawara and visit Hakone first before going up to Kawaguchiko area. Then take this newly launched train service back to Tokyo (or you could take express bus) - https://www.jreast.co.jp/hachioji/fuji_excursion/en/

1 thing u need to consider when visiting Hakone/Kawaguchiko is your big luggage. What i did last time was storing my big luggage at my next hotel in Tokyo, then just use a small luggage / backpack to go to Hakone

Thanks! Unfortunately, when I buy flight tickets I didn't think of this. sweat.gif
So have to go with this la. Unless I tweak my journey to travel from Kyoto straight back to Tokyo, store the big luggage and take a small one to Kawaguchigo + Hakone. Seems more time-consuming though.
*
Or use a luggage service in Kyoto and send your big luggage to Tokyo hotel, while u travel to Mt Fuji
