7am is ok, i think i went there around tat time. no much ppl. n can still see cats loitering around there.
i did go up to the top n make a loop around the mountain path. spent around an hour n half there i think.

i think most ppl go is at mid area where u can see city view. the top area basically a shrine n u cant see much.
*
Ok that's good to know.
I intend to reach the entrance of the shrine around 7am and maybe spend an hour or more there before going to Tofukuji.

I must reach Tofukuji at 8:30am when it opens in order to avoid the maddening autumn crowds doh.gif

Only way I can add Arima Onsen is if I drop something from my itinerary, looks pretty tough haha.
Oh well, can't see them all I reckon.

don't even go for hotel
after i search on airbnb and thought it looks expensive
i go to agoda and search for the same date...it's even more expensive
starting from RM7XX to RM9XX per night blink.gif
that's because i saw this link
https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3950_higashiyama_half.html
it is said that it's able to be done within 4.5 hour and it end up at gion-shijo station which is where kawaramachi and nishiki is located
which is why i put it that way

already got people commented that oct 6th is pack, some say just enough
i'm not gonna add it there anymore
i might just skip it since i went kinkakuji, my mom can only take that much temple laugh.gif
i always saw people say early but i never know how early is actually early laugh.gif
*
For 4 people, definitely go for Airbnb as it is much cost efficient.
For couples like us, splurging on hotels occasionally is alright tongue.gif

Ok let's say I want to add Arima Onsen, which part of my itinerary below can be changed to allow for that?

Day 01: Arrive into Osaka (17th Nov) around 12pm from Okinawa. Purchase a HARUKA/ICOCA package and head off to Kyoto. Hotel for the next 5 nights will be Sotetsu Fresa Shijo-Karasuma. Any suggestions on what to do after checking in for the rest of the day/night? Was thinking of taking a leisurely stroll around Southern Higashiyama.

Day 02: Ginkakuji - Honen-in - Philosopher's Path - Yojiya Cafe - Shinnyodo - Eikando - Nanzenji then free & easy for the rest of the day, maybe some shopping at night?

Day 03: Fushimi Inari - Tofukuji - Sanjusangendo - Kiyomizudera - Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka/Ishibei Koji - Kodaiji then free & easy for the rest of the day

Day 04: Visit the Arashiyama bamboo grove early morning then the plan is to do the route between Otagi Nebutsuji and Tenryuji, stopping at the various temples in between. Not sure which route to take yet, can do either directions. Finish off a long day at Fufu no yu before going back to hotel.

Day 05: Kinkakuji - Ryoanji - Ninnaji - Kitano Tenmangu - Nijo Castle then free & easy for the rest of the day

Day 06: Check out from hotel then visit Nishiki Market before heading off to Osaka around noon. Rest of the day free & easy at Osaka. Hotel for the next 5 nights will be The Bridge Hotel Shinsaibashi

Day 07: Full day at Osaka for shopping, eating and the castle maybe

Day 08: Day trip to Himeji Castle & the garden then stop by Kobe on the way back to Osaka, using Kansai Area Pass for this one I believe

Day 09: Day trip to Nara

Day 10: Day trip to Minoo Park

Day 11: Leave for Tokyo

Day 12: Free & easy in Tokyo

Day 13: Leave for KL

Thank you all for your suggestions regarding Arima Onsen.
Seems alright to squeeze Arashiyama with Kinkakuji but I rather take it easy then to tick check-boxes so it seems the only option is if I drop Minoo Park.
Arima Onsen v Minoo Park, will decide based on what the wife wants I guess haha!

I would allocate at least half a day plus travel time to and from Arima Onsen. Arima Onsen is not that near from Osaka or Kyoto.
*
Yup if I do decide on Arima Onsen, it will be a 1 day trip.
By the way, what's there besides the onsen?

go mount rokko

Doesn't seem like much up there but it's an option if we get bored or Arima Onsen.

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Apr 14 2019, 11:26 AM)
Its a small village on top of a mountain. A popular tourist destination. You can try staying overnight at the Ryokans with onsens there which includes meals as well. Basically, the place you will be spending most of your time would  at the center of town with restaurants, souvenir shops and onsens.  You can also try some of the local delicacies sold at the shops there.
If I were you, I would plan half a day at Kobe and then another half here.
*
Just tried a dummy booking and those ryokans are quite pricey, would prefer to do a day trip from Osaka.
Good shout re Kobe, I think that's what I will mostly likely do.

Anybody thinks this is a good deal - https://www.hanshin.co.jp/global/en/images/...ex/arima_en.pdf?

if rokkosan is included, get this arima + rokkosan pass instead
https://rail.hanshin.co.jp/ticket/otoku/pdf/ticket_en.pdf

it include cable car/ropeway to Mt Rokko, bus to other side of mt rokko ropeway, ropeway down to kobe.
n u can see the autumn tree from rope way as well as kobe city view from mt rokko itself.

but the onsen only limited to either Gold bath or Silver bath.
*
Thanks for that link, very helpful snapshot indeed.
If I decide to go Mt Rokko then will get the mentioned pass for sure smile.gif

Nishiki & kuroman ichiba close at 6pm.
for Fri, Kaiyukan is not bad choice.
Kinosaki Onsen, if din plan on staying at their ryokkan n wan to take dip more than 2 times, get Yumepa Pass.
if u lazy to bring ur big towel, u can "rent" for a price, after u use, u can take it with you to next onsen. n the town get really quiet after 6pm (near train station).

Amanohashidate is not a bad place. its quiet town tho.
*
Planning to stay a night at Kinosaki between our Kyoto & Osaka trip, as a break smile.gif
Already booked our ryokan laugh.gif

Where is this Amanohashidate let me check hmm...

*
Yes, cannot get enough of autumn in Japan so I am back!
19 days this time haha, much longer than my last trip but also coz my brother is getting married in Okinawa ☺

QUOTE(Like a Bause @ May 3 2019, 03:17 AM)
mind to share which ryokan did u booked?  smile.gif
*
Mitsuwa Ryokan, 18,700 Yen for 2 people with brekkie.
That was the absolute cheapest I could find in Kinosaki for that period.

The other one I found was Sennen no Yu Gonzaemon but this one was 42,000 Yen with the crab dinner included 😲

need you guy's advice on my itinerary on kyoto osaka trip
is the whole thing too rush or?
and what can i do on the last day since the flight back is a night flight
*
I agree with Human Nature, day 2 looks too hectic so I would drop Nishiki & Imperial Palace since by the time you reach Nishiki it would he quite late already and I heard the market is mostly bustling during the morning.

My own plan for Nara is 1 whole day so by including Fushimi & even Uji on day 4 for your schedule looks quite tiring.

You're staying in Kyoto or Osaka?

2nd day i made it like that is because i saw this
https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3950_higashiyama_half.html
not sure viable or not but it said can be done within 4.5 hours(half day) when reach gion-shijo/sanjo
thn will have another half day to explore the nishiki/kawaramachi surrounding area until night
that palace i put last is because it's optional, if can fit in thn ok, if can't thn can forgo and just explore the street like nishiki, kawaramachi, shinkyogoku, kiyamachi

for uji, i'm following regentCID's recommendation only
which is [平等院観音堂] [平等院 Byodoin] [十三重石塔] which is like going on a counter circle
but i still out uji as maybe, not sure if it's worth it(also depending on time after fushimi inari)

have u tried any all u can eat wagyu beef in osaka/kyoto?
i found chifaja at kawaramachi, review seem good
i set day 2 like that is because i saw this
https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3950_higashiyama_half.html
not sure viable or not but said to be able to be done in 4.5-5 hours
mean will reach sanjo or gion-shijo by noon
i might drop the palace and just explore around the streets of nishiki and kawaramachi only until late night though if time doesn't permit

decided to stay in both kyoto and osaka due to not worth to do daytrip because consist of 4 person
1st few day will stay in kyoto, only on Oct 7th (Monday) will take the train go osaka castle >> osaka/umeda >> abeno harukas >> namba(airbnb)
*
The Japan Guide half-day Higashiyama trip is probably viable if you don't spend too long at each destination and move fairly quickly.
From memory, you are travelling with some elderly?
If so, better to adjust the timing upwards to play it safe.

QUOTE(Fyonne @ May 3 2019, 09:02 AM)
my Uji/Nara trips are,
Morning 6am at Fushimi Inari.
9am at Uji area.
12pm Nara. Todaiji Daibutsu, Nigatsudo, Tamukeyama Hachimangu, n Katsuga Taisha.
then return to Kyoto at night.
*
This is a hardcore jam packed day haha, 6am at Fushimi wow!
Nara feels like half a day, enough time to enjoy slowly if start at noon?

my 2nd uji/nara trip was
9am Uji
12pm Nara, Todaiji Daibutsu only.
Night Fushimi Inari.

n i mentioned before, very hard to enjoy Nara but easier to relax while enjoying at Uji.
since Nara is everyone choice, but not Uji, hence lesser crowd.
ppl from Osaka wont go Uji, only from Kyoto might.

the deer is nice for beginning but get annoying tho.
*
I'm doing Fushimi another day so I might drop by Uji before or after Nara depending on my timing.
Might also drop it completely if I can't finish Nara in a day.

Does the JR train stop by Uji? Or is it only via Kintetsu?

1 elderly, but can walk...don't have mobility problem time
and prefer to shop and eat rather than temple
so those temple and shrine are probably just walk around, won't stay too long
looks like i might really need to cut uji away based on the timing that u said
*
Then how about going to Nishiki first in the morning before hitting the temples/shrines?

Indeed, I've rarely heard of anyone saying "once is enough" where it concerns Japan.

Oh gawd, that's epic - 19 days! My longest was close to 2 weeks hahahaha. Congrats to your brother and Happy planning!
*
Yes cannot get enough of Japan and probably never will but just thankful I've managed to sort out my work and holidays to make this 3.5 week trip happen.
Will hopefully be able to post up some sort or trip report once it's done.
A lot of flying though but at least business class so not too bad tongue.gif

only Keihan n JR iinm. taking Keihan from Fushimi Inari seem need to change train tho.

Kintetsu? if ur goin from Osaka to Nara, skip Uji lo unless u wan make a trip there.
only from Kyoto to Nara, u pass Uji. Uji is closer to Kyoto than Nara.
*
QUOTE(_ChAoS_ @ May 3 2019, 10:07 AM)
Both JR and non JR trains stops at Uji, but at different locations. One is further away from the other. You'll have to look at GMaps to see which one suits you better.

Also, depending on which pass you decided to use to visit the area. JR is more direct and faster between Fushimi Inari, Uji and Nara, however it's can be more expensive without using passes. If you're using Kansai Thru Pass, you might consider a hybrid where route using both JR (additional fare) and non JR trains.
*
Thanks Fyonne & ChAoS, the plan is to go to Nara during the Osaka part of my trip and my JR Pass would have been activated then.
Will be boarding the train from Tennoji and getting off at JR Nara station.
I will have a look at whether Uji is a convenient stopover or not.

JR do stop by uji
which is why in regentCID's itinerary, it's inari >> uji >> nara
thn later i found out kintetsu also travel there from kyoto but with more stops
i put kiyomizudera 1st is because nishiki open from 9.30AM but kiyomizudera opens from 6AM so i plan to hit kiyomizudera and surrounding area 1st before hitting nishiki area saves me time since i can start earlier
*

Ok yeah that makes sense, will be a super early start for you then smile.gif

that's the problem, when i search on gmaps or hyperdia
sometime there are multiple route to each a specific location
maybe got A and B route
when i read itinerary, they use A route
when i search Gmaps and hyperdia, it has another B route that is cheaper sweat.gif

not sure which one to follow laugh.gif
*
I use Hyperdia for planning all my train routes and will normally choose the one that takes the least amount of time, unless the cost difference is huge.
Like what ChAoS mentioned, there are probably 2 or 3 ways from Point A to Point B so choose the one that suits your schedule best.
