after salary negotiation, how long would HR normally get back to you to confirm your salary? the company is unable to give me my expected salary but i told the HR i would still accept an amount slightly less than my expected but a bit more than their recommended pay (since the benefits are quite attractive). i've been waiting for nearly 2 weeks and still no news yet.

Not fixed, some take days / weeks / months. Depends on HR process. Some will ask for pay first and then let internal committee vet and approve. Some will get all internal approval and only negotiate with staff.

You need to follow up instead of waiting, it's possible it fell into spam box or buried in inbox.

This happened to me months ago, I proposed a number I wanted, she didn't reply for 2 weeks, I followed up then she said she didn't see my wechat.

Anyway I got the number I wanted + other benefits. So yea, follow up every 3-7 days.

Did HR tell you they want to hire you? Or they are asking what is your expected salary and you negotiate with them?

If the HR already mentioned to you that they are offering you a package with X amount of salary, and you negotiated, most likely HR needs time to get back to their hiring manager, and if bigger company, there could be a remuneration committee to determine new employees salary based on their pay scale, all this takes time, and hiring manager could be busy as well.

Like others mentioned, it's okay for you to follow up with HR as a courtesy and tell them your situation as there is another company offering you.

Final salary negotiation is like playing poker, not telling you to lie but see who gives in first.

In my opinion your chances are still there and all the best!

Under what circumstances do companies/HR need to refer to committees to approve a potential new hire's salary?
