I would be able to produce an apk which can skip root checking but since I don't have an Unifi account, I won't be able to test or verify it.

Those who want to try a modded unifi TV tablet apk to skip root checking, can PM me. This is an untested mod as I don't have an account to test.

I am replying to my own post. As it seems, the protection scheme used by TM apk is very nasty. I just decompile and compile it back ( without changing any code ), it will automatically fail to work.

Looks like it is detecting something about originality of its own apk, and conpared with what is stored on the server. I would need to go down quite deep into the code to see if that can be fooled.

So don't bother to pm me for now. LOL.

Adding icon is not the issue I am talking about.

I suspect the apk is doing md5sum integrity check of its own file originality and compare it with what's stored somewhere else .....

Right now I am stuck already. Because I just decompile, recompile, I did not touch any code, it already stops working. The only logical explanation is that the developer who wrote this app for TM, has built in a nasty protection mechanism to block any changes to the apk. Not to say it is impossible to hack it, but certainly requires deeper understanding of the code.

Has any mod the this app existed before ?

Someone PM-ed me a modded APK, thanks, but it suffers the same problem as I am facing.

There is anti-hacking feature built into this app working together with TM servers.

As soon as one de-compiles and re-compiles back into apk, the servers will refuse to provide the service. To spoof that, one has to get the original TM signature/hash and feed them back to tm servers .... or something like that.

The anti-hacking is a lot more elaborate than the current AstroGo. But it is fun to see how this anti-hacking can be beaten. Magisk is still a better answer for those who want root and this app together.

Somebody has informed me to test it using facebook account. Of course, that's not the full test and whatever applicable for facebook account may not even apply to normal accounts.

Nevertheless, based on facebook account, I have already concluded that TM app performs "signature" checking, ie soon as you modified the apk ( decompile and re-compile back and never change a single line of code), it will refuse to stream anymore.

This problem can be resolved by "faking the signature", but the coding will be involved. I am not going down this path for now. So this path for modded TM apk is death for now.

I did not test all, I only tested one using 'apk analyser'.

'apk analyser' tells me the signature of the apk is coming from Telekom Malaysia. So I say your scanner software ( metadefender.opswat.com ) thing is bullshit.

It is not easily to tamper TM apk and still make it work.

Then the so called 'virus' is built into the apk originally coming from TM. TM itself does lots of checking internally to prevent hacking, and so these anti-hacking may appear as virus.
