GG all the watchable unifi tv channels are saying goodbye

They'll be gone for sure. Still waiting for announcement regarding the replacement channels though. Kinda curious whether Unifi TV will launch new premium channels or have their own English in-house channels that air current non-Disney/FOX shows/movies or license them as on demand content.

Wait, when is this confirmed?

Can’t compare apples to oranges. Unifi is a broadband company essentially and astro is an entertainment company. I have long ago not been an astro customer. However this time I like that I have more content choices at a way lower price. I find myself watching more OTTs than not these days. It is good enough for my entertainment needs. I just hope that hotstar and netflix to be available at a great price soon on Unifi.

To each their own I guess.

i truly appreciate that a 6 yr old TV can still play BB iplayer, iqiyi, lionsgate!

silver, white, black?

only black UPB is on ATV os, can use these streaming apps.

white is generic android, cannot use those apps; silver not even android.

so, to use those streaming apps as a unifi customer, u either change pack/upgrade/pay for UPB or buy separate box using ATV os or use a smart TV that is running on ATV (sony, sharp).

That white unifi tv box run on Android 4.4.2

Dunno tm can upgrade to play all those new apps

Get a cheap android box/dongle like MeCool KD1 or KM2 (if you want Netflix certification).

The UPB has a number of limitations, namely Unifi TV is streamed via internet and not VLAN (lower bitrate and half FPS compared to white box) and no sideloading

At the end of the day it depends if the ease of use is worth the extra money. While they might be pricier, ATV devices has a much better UI that is catered for remote control, as well as the ability to chromecast. I have a couple of colleague that owned a normal android box changed to an ATV device after using mine since it's easier.
And it's not like it's much more expensive than an Android Box either.  A Mi Stick or Mecool KD1 are only around RM150ish now.

unifiplaytv itself can work on regular android but can't navigate properly...

silver/white unifitv box has dedicated line - u get the relevant channels but not the "streaming" apps.

"streaming apps" like iqiyi, lionsgate can only be accessed via apps.

unifiplaytv itself is also an app.

if unifi has done good work, there should be various versions of these apps to be used on regular android, ATV, all brands of smart TV, PC, tablets, etc.

but my exp with unifi playtv... works v well on ATV but not on regular android - hard to navigate with mouse or remote, whatever... can't get full menu.

if the same will happen to iQiyi, lionsgate, u may find navigation issues when using on windows.

well, it is possible they wud have improved all versions at launch, we shall see.

For third party apps, it's the responsibility of the service provider, and not Unifi. So it will be hit and miss on how the layout/experience will be. For example TVB+ Anywhere seems to have a decent app on every kind of platform

It depends on what you want to watch. Both have Chinese drama series, variety shows and movies, however, both license titles from different content distributors. If you love Astro Ria drama series, you should go for Iqiyi. If you want Discovery and ViuTV (HK) content, then go for Viu. I also try to decide this, but I choose Viu because of Discovery and ViuTV content. 😅
