how bout subtitles settings?
i just need it to fixed to english
*
IIRC unlike Astro there is no settings for you to choose a specific language for subtitle/audio. I have this issue too since all subs defaults to Malay and I need to change it manually whenever I change channel. Like, how hard can it be to create that setting? I have complained about that for years now :V

Indonesia's MNC has gotten it's HBO lineup dropped from ther channel list, including Discovery as well, similar to Disney where everything is now on HBO app.

I wonder if Unifi TV pun will only just get app without the channels

QUOTE(UnifiTVFan @ May 31 2023, 03:42 PM)
Yes. It also seems like Rock Entertainment team no longer allows new TV providers to carry Smithsonian Channel (linear) as they want them to carry their in-house Global Trekker. One more thing. Unifi TV actually licenses Smithsonian Channel's VOD as part of their Rock Entertainment's carriage deal like how Aniplus VOD is part of K-Plus (linear) and Miao Mi VOD is part of Celestial Movies (linear).

Also, the recent decision made by Warner Bros. Discovery APAC to drop all 5 linear channels from HBO GO implies that they're planning to make HBO channels on more TV providers across Asia, which further supports @Iptvfan's claim that HBO channels along with other Warner Bros. Discovery channels are heading to Unifi TV this July-September. tongue.gif
*
Or they are going the way of Disney and dropping linear channel altogether

I'm having similar problems with previous version UPB but no more with latest one. The apps version may have compatibility issue with certain hardware configuration  hmm.gif

Yeah, the app is never stable for me either. Which is why I prefer to use the old white box

QUOTE(UnifiTVFan @ Jun 19 2023, 03:34 PM)
For some reason, I can stream Disney+ Hotstar at 1080p for Western content like Family Guy and American Horror Story, and 4K for the newer movies. I do it using UPB (1st gen). App version: 23.05.22.9

I don't watch non-Western content in the app, so I can't comment a lot on that.

I think it's Disney's new practice to limit the types of devices that can stream their content higher than 720p. I know a lot of sideloaded apps and "non-mainstream brands" are facing with this issue. Even Netflix also does the same if I'm not mistaken.
*
For some reason, I can only get 720p when I am streaming from a 1080p device (Android TV, Netflix Certified), but on my 4K TV, I can get 4K HDR. Tested this on the same title, American Born Chinese. I presume Hotstar fucked up somewhere with their server settings, mistaknely limiting content to only 720p instead of 1080p for people without a 4K device

Me on Onn 4K connected to FHD TV also only 720p

Saw a user complained on PlayStore the same issue

I don't think they are still unaware of this
*
I emailed Hotstar and they asked me to send some screenshots of my device and the 720p limit

After chatting with Hotstar support, I just realised that

1 - There is a Stats for Nerds function in the app
2 - Hotstar is using HEVC for it's stream, even at 720p

RTM channels still better quality on Astro than on SD unifiTV. laugh.gif If they fixed it than it'll be a good value.
*
Yeah. Also you are still stuck with 25FPS stream unless you are still using the old white box + VLAN. If Unifi can upgrade their stream and lessen the delay without using the dedicated VLAN I'd totally be happy to ditch my old box :V

hello seniors, I'm extending my contract with SWU2.0, and gotten new UPB, was wondering whether the PQ will be better than my current white box?
*
Unless your UPB is using the dedicated VLAN, the streaming mode has lesser picture quality and frame rate compared to the white box

The current one, hybrid box. But I recently discovered that the Unifi tv app worked better with wifi than with vlan. Check my post here
*
which means you won't get the better PQ and less delay advantage :V

Yes, but the app doesn't crash all the time anymore and subtitles are actually readable. In term of PQ, the difference isn't that significant.
*
depends on which channels. For sports channel the PQ difference is notable

oh okay, thought is Apple TV
720p bit sweat.gif at least 1080 loh, might be disney+ app limit it if hardware cannot support

my iphone also 1080 only, although is recent model, could be due to iphone no 4k res
*
The app has a bug. Plug it into a 1080p tv and it's limited to 720p only, but if you plug the same hardware into a 4K tv, the resolution is all unlocked. So it's not the hardware issue

new box but i dunno what box it will be.

every new netflix subscription comes with new box + 2 yr contract - according to what i read.
i just gotta wait then.

...

on a general note, i dunno what u guys think of unifi way of doing things.

i find them quite confusing or they r confused themselves with diff staff in diff depts saying diff things.

.. unifitv app, myunfi app, selfcare app, unifi.com.... why do they not consolidate all these portals?
.. + online chat, emails, sms, phone calls, walk in to TM...
.. info u get by calling 100, or online chat or in person at HQ are not always consistent, often in conflict.

i get exhausted when trying to change things with unifi. sad.gif
i hv not contacted them for last 6-7 years for anything but had to for netflix.
not a smooth experience when u want them to get something done.

Becuse they are an ISP company offering TV, and not every branch pf that company keeps up with each other. But helpdesk all lump together

Response from disney hotstar :-

Thank you for contacting Disney+ Hotstar.

We hope your day has been well. We understand your interest to enjoy higher video quality on your Google Chromecast connected to Panasonic TV and we would love to help.

In regard to the video quality on Google Chromecast, firstly, kindly ensure that your Google Chromecast is Gen 2 onwards running with Firmware 1.43 and above for a smooth streaming experience. Additionally, kindly be informed that video quality options such as HD 720p, Full HD 1080p and 4K Ultra HD will be available depending on your supported streaming devices.

Nevertheless, for us to understand your situation better and assist further, kindly share the following details:

1. Model/Generation of your Google Chromecast where you are facing the issue and its OS and firmware version.
2. The Disney+ Hotstar application version on your Google Chromecast.
3. Click on this link https://h.hotstar.com/Debug and share a screenshot of the output.
4. Screenshot of "Stats For Nerds".

Kindly refer to the following steps to enable the "Stats For Nerds" on your living room device:

1. Play any content on the Google Chromecast connected to your Panasonic TV.
2. While the content is playing, click and hold the 'Quality' option on the video player until the "Stats For Nerds" loads.
3. Take an image of the "Stats For Nerds" and share it with us.

We appreciate your cooperation and awaiting your reply.
*
Yeah, I got the same generic reply. Just reply succintly and precicely, and do what you are asked. Tell them that you can get other resolutions when your hardware (Chromecast) is plugged into a 4K TV

I don't have FB sadly hahaha. But sure, the more noise the better. Also it's affecting not only us in Malaysia, but everybody in this region (except Singapore). They should have known about this. I don't know why they are not releasing a fixed version
