I'm total car newbie, i'm just eyeing getting a new axia base model manual is fine by me. But somehow i see just by topping up around 5-6k from axia base model i can get Iriz second hand with around 25-30K mileage and its a auto transmission . Axia have a way better fuel consumption but iriz safety feature kinda won me over? Which is better? why does iriz cost so cheap compare to myvi second hand btw.

there's no radio in axia e.
does that tell you anything?

for iriz, if you can, get the manual transmission. better fuel efficiency, better acceleration, instant throttle response. and the gear feel is great too.

life or fuel efficient more important.
After you know the answer, you will not need to ask this type of question.

Your first goal is always New car.
2nd hand car is like a gamble. If problematic, more money come out.
But if good, than you lucky.
Used car also bank interest higher. Look at it that way.

Unless there is a specific reason for you to get a 2nd hand car, like axia too small, your family can't fit, or you are thinking safety concerns, or you are too fat and axia doesn't look good with you, or you love iriz looks, etc.
Means you die die wanna buy iriz instead of a new car with same price.

Like I go buy car, New Hrv and Used CRV also same price.
If Hrv already OK with me, I sure buy that Hrv cos its new.

The new facelifted Iriz will not feature 1.0 turbo TGDI engine from Geely. It has been confirmed by paultan.

The new 1.0 &1.5 turbo TGDI will only be fitted in X50

You buy a antique Toyota KE70 or 1992 Honda EG 4 door also better than any produa cars, because you only have 1 life and you can't shop for a leg or arm in the pharmacy. So go for Iriz else used waja or city.

Both car ok. You just need to decide your purpose for the car. Both can fo for city drive or highway drive & fuel effiecient is depending on the person handling. If you do F1 like drive surely fuel not efficient. Budget, Safety feature (examlple ASEAN NCAP crash test) & engine type is the only difference. Just do your research.

If u don't mind manual, please get Iriz manual. The auto is crap, jerky, noisy and worrying long term durability.

Especially if u can find 1.6L manual, the extra torque and power over 1.3L really makes it worthwhile.

Dude avoid this model, this 1 got no ABS and EBD. Get 1 with SXi or EZi under the Myvi badge.

2nd hand Iriz FTW. Accident or fall from bridge, A pillar still intact, door still can open & passenger could get out fine.

What's your size? I find Axia very crampy, haha. I understand your dilemma, contemplating btwn better specced Iriz and affordable Axia. Although Iriz is more compelling since it gives better value for money and has more safety features, it would be more exhausting for your financial condition. Meanwhile, Axia is cheap for being cheap. For Axia, it's a gamble for losing out many features especially safety-wise. However, u wont use the safety features like airbags all the time, no? Iriz? It's there when u need it, the airbags, vsc etc. For me, i would compromise on safety, so im more flexible financially, as long as u drive safely, the absence safety features have literally no effect. dont know about you...

Sad thing in Malaysia cars are pricey and stingily specced

Btw, how about Kia Picanto? A segment nimbility with B segment specs@ around RM50k

there is a reason iris selling at 20000km and at lower price.

i believe people nowadays or proton supporter will say that axia is not safety.. but look at the testing result.. it has 4 star ncap rating while iris is at 5... yes one star ahead but then again it at different segment

Iriz have ESC

I have Axia and Saga at home, both A segment car, and both cars are rewarded with 4 stars.
I felt more safe inside of the Saga, Axia feels kosong.

calling people stupid without a valid reason more like you the one that is stupid, be realistic in comparison look at new axia price and compare with axia 20k km used. and compare iris new price and 20k km used. the reason of this due to unsatisfied owner like you who say proton is way better because of proton steel and frame.. they are 2 different company with 2 different mindset while proton looking into old technology like saga/iswara with heavy metal body and bad fc... and perodua with lighter body with good fc

not even gonna argue with that much stupidity spewing from your mouth.

your logic of 4 star vs 5 star ncap rating not a big difference between axia and iriz is enough to prove it.

I m axia owner g spec auto standard own fr 3years this car sucks on safety n stability. Fuel consumption wise minimum can achieve 14-17km/l never trust 21km advertise on their brochure is impossible to achieve. Car rattle every where even car seat rattle spring broken. Axia is super-duper under power going up genting with three to 4 passengers like not enough energy car keep on rev up n down n keep on change gear. Rear passenger always complain on air-cond cannot feel the air-cond even set to 3 out of 4 during hot weather. Good thing abt this car so far did not breakdown n is easy fr parking if u r single n drive n city shud be OK. If u r fat n always drive highway this car is not fr u I wud choose new persona at least more power n safer extra power better incase u need to fetch more people. Proton quality now is better perodua car now mostly have rattle around the place even new Myvi too

His budget seems <rm30k, either new Axia E or used auto Iriz.

Which i find odd. If he willing to consider buying manual, I'd recommend used Iriz 1.6MT.

But yea, previous gen Picanto manual also pretty good, most comfortable and quiet at least. But none on mudah now, unless TS is in Sarawak :

new facelift Iriz is coming. You can get discounts of 2018 models which may goes well with your budget too.

Safety - Win
Looks - Win
Space - win
Price - moderate

If ur you look at financial prospective, need a vehicle that can bring you to point a to b and love manual than auto like me then axia basic is the best choice..

If ur looking for top safety and space then go for other model..

Im my self using axia basic model..been using it for 2 years already...very happy with it, install android car player now can waze without using semakphone. No cental lock also but im ok with it wait till warranty over before install one. The best thing is the car is cheap i go for 5 years loan only and that mean low intrest compare to ahem2 9 years loan

then u just stupid for not understanding what the segment difference is..
*
Like you said it is different segment. Even if Axia get 5-stars also will be less safe than Iriz's 5-stars, simply because it is a smaller car.

what is pre facelift myvi? there is only the current myvi - no facelift, its a new generation model.

anyway goes to show how useless the iriz is. cant even fight in its proper category anymore.

Iriz is not as bad as what people mentioned. Fuel consumption also reasonable with full tank going 450km. My mother Iriz has so far not given any problem to her and we are really happy with the car (of course discount matters). Service centre in Ipoh also really helpful during first service only took us 2 hrs with upgrade service centre. Driving wise, it is a pleasure for the price you pay.

If you drive like mad go for Iriz, if drive like granny go for axia. You cant go wrong with iriz handling.
*
I think this is the most sensible answer. It really depends of the driver driving habit.

Comparing new to 2nd...top up a bit can get BMW 5 series 2nd hand...true story.

If Hrv already OK with me, I sure buy that Hrv cos its new.

ya factors to consider when purchasing New and 2nd Hand Car.. nod.gif

IMHO i would look for second hand 1.6 variant mt Iriz, but of course the mileage will be quite high and very rare to find.
