I managed to meet someone ( in a high level position) in Microsoft Malaysia by chance recently and asked him abt future of support in Malaysia and he mentioned that there were some discussions at his level but nothing forthcoming. I then suggested that if some data would be helpful in pushing the case for support / official launch in Malaysia, and he said it would really help. Addtionally he also mentioned that given the right situation, there is also the possiblity of establishing a 'back-door' support channel in Malaysia ( i.e no launch in M'sia but support ). So I took his name card and told I that I'd be in touch if I can get some data.

Here's where I need everyone's thoughts. I was thinking,... with everyone's help here ,..I will need to compile a database with the following ...

*Gamertag * No of units * purchase date (month/year) * no of games* Device Failure : 3rod/ video/ power ..etc * Faillure Date ( month / year) * Problem solved? (Yes/No) * How was problem solved - Self repair / 1 to 1 exchange *

no of units and games would provide an estimate of the amt spent on xbox 360.
Purchase date will provide a trend of increasing users in Malaysia from the time of launch
gamertag will provide authenticity of users

obvoiusly all this info is for ORI 360 units and games.

Please bear in mind that this is a longshot at best but I thought we can at least try do something. Of course help from everyone here is critical. Would you all support this? has this been done before? is this data worth compiling ? need your thoughts.

If all they wanted were gamertags they can grab it from this page
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/230026

then they can go through their system and see not only how many games we've played but also how many points we've spent.

I agree with u but I thought we shld compile our own info and give it to them. to force them them to notice us rather than us expecting them continously monitor Malaysian 360 gamers.

Added on June 14, 2007, 2:33 pmThanks to those who have provide info. I have added 4 more fields to the data required to gauge our support problems. I ve edit the first post to include it.
So now the full set of data required is :
*Gamertag * No of units * purchase date (month/year) * no of games* Device Failure : 3rod/ video/ power ..etc * Failure Date ( month / year) * Problem solved? (Yes/No) * How was problem solved - Self repair / 1 to 1 exchange *

surely not every M'sian gamer who buy 360+games are posting in this forum or this thread, no?

din't GH say they sold out their initial batch of FM2 around 200 units within few days? easier to collect data with shops like GH and Bernard's, don't you think?

anyway i buy mostly used games tongue.gif
*
I will approach the shops eventually but the mian focus will be the gamers in here and the success of this data collection.

yo dude, not to burst your bubble but the eventual decision does not lie in the hands of someone in Malaysia.

I've met microsoft E&D folks from Malaysia, Singapore and even from Redmond and no one really is saying much right now. Trust me, if they really wanted to find out what the market is really like in Malaysia, they would have and should have done it a long time ago.

All I can say now is don't get your hopes too high up. Will it ever happen, no one can really for sure but what i do know is everyone should just enjoy their game and get on with it.

PS: I've pointed the thread with all the local gamer tags to the "right" ppl at Microsoft Malaysia before just to let you know.

I hear you bro. In fact this is quite a longshot BUT I feel we should just do something and see where it goes.
Additionally, my contact did also mention that it is MS is interested to build a relationship with the gaming community here in the long term. I know this might not be really true and I am not naive to think that MS even cares about us, but lets just see where this takes us,... might not be anywhere, might be somewhere, we have nothing to lose right?

yeah its been questioned alot by tons of people if MS will actually launch at all, but in the end there isnt a single person tht wouldnt want a official LAUNCH sweat.gif
*
yeah man, for me if they dont want to launch officially oso no problem, what I'd like to see is support for us provided by them via official or unofficial way. We are their customers, they should care about us. I mean here we are, a community of gamers who stick our necks out to buy a product that is not even supported here, add to it we also go original. We're supporting them, they should support us.

matter of the fact is they are supporting us unofficially already. one game shop in malaysia (guess who) is getting stocks direct from the official distributor in singapore and they are covered by the standard 1 year warranty like the one offered to Singaporeans. The only problem is that its still considered parallel imports. they are aware of and (again unofficially) supporting the events i run with the game shop as well.

I'm thinking , a little bit more than this, maybe a phone support number in Malaysia and also 1 to 1 exchange/repair in Malaysia not SG.

err that's quite impossible until they officially launch the xbox 360 in Malaysia. I don't know if you know how things work, but it doesn't work like that. To have phone support and a service center, you need to put a lot of things in place first.

Why would Msoft want to provide support for a product that is technically not available in Malaysia?
*
No I dont know how these things work smile.gif , I'm sure the details on setting up a support center, etc is important but IMO the crucial thing is Msoft decision with xbox in malaysia. If they decide to support, I'm sure they will put everything in place.

Look, I met this guy by chance and discussed this with him and he encouraged, so now I'm trying to collect some data to try and push our case, thats all. I'm quite passionate abt this at the moment, so I dont care if I'm wasting my time smile.gif

As for why would Msoft wanna support us for a product that is not available in Malaysia - simple, because Malaysians have started buying and using it and our numbers are growing
