you can do your check up at PPUM, PPUM+KK or PPUM+private. it is entirely up to you. normal delivery cost RM500++ and Cesarean cost RM 1000++. check up done at PPUM all stored in their computer, just in case you didn't delivery there you will not have any records in hard copy in hand if you only do your check ups at PPUM.

why last minute? as soon as you got your positive pregnancy test you can pay your deposit and make your first appointment.

I have notice some inaccurate information on the above posts.

Correct info are as follows.
1) booking can be made at PPUM klinik antenatal counter as soon as you know you are pregnant. Just bring what ever photo/report from private clinic or pink book if you went to Klinik Kesihatan earlier. No referral letter is required.
2) first check up appointment is usually 2 months later from your booking date.
3) need to pay RM500 deposit + RM 31 registration during first check up. Inborn Error of Metabolism Test (RM80 - Optional) payable during first appointment if you wish to do it when your baby is born later.
4) earliest first check up appointment will be in July 2019 now.

For the first point, is it true? Because we called twice to confirm and both operator told us the same thing - which is 12th week and above. I suppose this could be their SOP because within the first 12 weeks miscarriage is common so they wanna reduce the risks.

Just walk in and get a number. Wait for your queue and pass them your pink book or ultrasound images. Blue card also for UM patients. Sure they won’t reject you. NT scan or Down syndrome scan will be done at UM for those who booked earlier. Each ultrasound scan only cost you RM20.

bear in mind that they will give you a booking form. after receive the booking form, you need to go to ultrasound department for scan appointment and they will give you an appointment form for ultrasound. in short, you have to be there personally.

Hi,

Thanks for the helpful info. May i know if i can just make an appointment via UMSC’s website itself? Or do I need to make a phone call to make an appointment? Or do I need to walk in to register? I am planning to deliver there and have been going for check ups at another private hospital.

Thanks.

I think you have mixed up UMMC and UMSC.

Could be. I thought the post was about UMSC.

look at the title. PPUM=Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya or UMMC. Not UMSC.

if just normal check up but not going to deliver at PPUM... still need to pay rm500 deposit first?
*
this is now allowed by ppum. you will need to pay RM500 anyhow before you are granted with your first appointment.

Would like to confirm that once the first appointment is made, subsequently all the necessary check ups and delivery can be done in PPUM right (just wondering if there is any things that can't be done in PPUM)? Thank you:)
*
not necessary to do check up at PPUM, but we prefer to do it there because hospital is still better than KK with greater facilities. Especially if you have any complications during pregnancy. Nothing can't be done at PPUM so far except 4d, 5d, 6d scan. You can do normal ultrasound, NT scan, anomaly scan, OGTT and etc. there.

I plan to deliver at PPUM soon. However, PPUM is now supporting Covid19 cases. Do you think it is still safe to deliver at PPUM? Any opinion?
*
Risk is there always. previously few Covid 19 death cases were occurred in PPUM. as far as I know, all the government hospital not allow husband to accompany wife during labor anymore. previously PPUM does allow husband to go in to the labour room. not sure about now. in fact, they cancelled all appointments for three months and focusing solely on Covid 19 treatments.

Dear all, I'm also wondering couple of things, would appreciate if you could share your experience:

1. I was told that the ones who receive your baby in the cases without complications are Medical Officers, not the higher ranking and more experienced professors, even if you do checkups with one during last months of pregnancy. Supposedly they only step in when there are any complications. How has your experience been with MOs?

2. I was also told they give you hospital robes and you are not allowed to wear your own clothes instead, is that true?  blink.gif Supposedly you can only wear something underneath, like warm pants and cardigan (bc allegedly it's quite cold in the wards), but you can't opt to just wear your own stuff.

3. Are husbands now allowed to be with the wife during the delivery? I forgot to ask the doctor last time. I'm ok if they are not allowed to stay overnight - I'd rather my husband goes home and sleeps/rests, but he wants to be present during the delivery.

4. Are phones still not allowed in wards?? That's preposterous  blink.gif

-------------------

Oh, and btw, for those whom this info could be useful, Malaysian deposit is not RM500 anymore, it's RM1000, and for foreigners, it's RM5000. I have also a standard service price list somewhere if interested, latest information received on 3 June 2020.

Answers:
1) Yes, it will be assigned randomly irregardless of team.
2) Yes
3) Allowed before MCO, after MCO not sure. I heard all government hospital also disallowed during MCO.
4) Phones are allowed at Ward, not labour room. Charging are not allowed.

hi all, I have a question, after delivery in PPUM, during the stay, will the nurse help to take care the baby? read some blog mentioned mom will need to take care the baby alone and having some concern since dad cannot stay overnight.
*
just like other government hospitals, you will have to take care of your baby on your own.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your information.

My wife and I are expecting our first baby. We are so lost before looking at this thread.

Wonder if anyone can answer us:

1) If we successfully make booking with PPUM, do we still need to go back to KKIA for follow ups?

2) If so, why would you recommend that? (as it seems repetitive to go for check ups in the 2 places?)

3) Will you suggest buying pregnancy insurance? Will it cover caesarean / epidural costs for private hospitals?
*
A1) Theoretical and practically you don't have to go back to KKIA for follow ups. If you walk in straight to PPUM upon confirmation of positive pregnancy, they you can make your booking and do every check up there and no pink book will be given. All records will be computerized, in case your wife failed to deliver there then you will have problem because no written records for other doctors to refer. If you have opened your pink book at KKIA, I'm doubt they will let you go and most likely you will have to follow up at both places.

A2) There are no such thing as repetitive. It is matter of whether you can afford to follow up it at different places as it is costly and time consuming. Second opinion is important. Some choose to follow at one private facilities and one government facilities. You will have hardcopy reports for any follow up outside PPUM. It is up to you to decide.

A3) Pregnancy insurance is important to pass your risk to the insurance company just in case there is any complication through out your journey. it doesn't cover caesarean nor epidural cost. AT PPUM and other government hospital, they will try their best to deliver your baby naturally. Hence, Caesarean and epidural are not in their priority list.
