Hello guys,
Currently I’m using a 24 inch 1080p 60hz monitor, and .was feeling like upgrading my monitor to a 2K display.

My rig is almost 4years old dy and it’s running on a GTX970. So is it viable to switch to a 2K display with this GPU? Or I should just stick with the old monitor and upgrade my old GPU instead?

Thanks in advance!

You want handle monitor only or you are referring to actual games? If games, what titles?

GTX 970 is around GTX 1050 Ti / GTX 1060 3GB performance level.

WQHD? Can but quite limited especially on AAA titles.
144Hz? Can.

What games? DOTA 2 and CS:GO ok. The rest, you need to go with lower details.

Don't worry about hitting 144 FPS on games, your 144Hz will work regardless of FPS. More concern now is the resolution vs card.

Thanks for the information ^^b
Sorry sorry, I was actually trying to refer games on whether can run smoothly at 120-144 FPS on 1440p.

But like what u have mentioned, GTX970 seems like kinda under power to run games @ 1440p 120hz-144hz right?

So should I be upgrading my 970 to atleast a 1070 ti before buying a 2k 144hz display?

Don't do any form of upgrade over the next 3 - 4 weeks.

RTX 2060 6GB arriving next week.

After price set in, wait a bit in case price gets adjusted. smile.gif

Price of the RTX 2060 6GB is estimated to be around RM 1.8k+/-

GTX 1070 Ti if benchmarks show similar performance level, should drop to even better price point.

Get a better CPU

i5-4670K on stock already doesn't power the GTX 1070 enough.

I understand that you intend on going 2K resolution, higher reso is less CPU reliant but it still does affect.

I'm also using i5 4690K stock. Need at least GTX 1070 to run AAA titles with medium to high settings to achieve above 60fps.

With GTX 1080 ti, just alil of setting tweaking in Tomb Raider, it will run around 55fps to 80+ fps. 55 fps at Village area.

*Edit* Shadow of the Tomb Raider
