Hi, this gonna be the first series of pool question to decide on appliances for my new house.

Currently using a small, 2 door (top freezer) fridge and thinking to upgrade by the time i move in new house mid this year.

Need to buy first to make sure it fit well with kitchen cabinet.

Only 2 criterias that I want for this new fridge:
1) side by side. Want a big fridge (since not gonna change for the next 5-10 years at least) but to minimize the door clearance since I will have a kitchen island.
2) energy saving. 5 star energy saving rating is a huge ++.

A) Hisense
I went to SenQ and saw this Hisense 4 door fridge with a very cool glass like finishing. It looks like a kitchen cabinet door. Really love it since it will well blend with the whole cabinet. Plus price is less than 3k. But I never have any experience using Hisense product before. Is it okay for long term usage?

B) Samsung
If I'm not taking the Hisense, I'm just gonna take this Samsung side-by side fridge. Price 3k++ but the look is nice clean design.

do consider Hitachi and Panasonic brands as well. They are using inverters which save on power consumption. Plus I feel they are more reliable. I used to have a small Samsung fridge before and it breaks down all the time. Their 3rd party service is very poor with no parts.

Another thing to consider is the fridge part of the side by side design is quite narrow. I dont think you can put in a large pizza box. I have a Hitachi 3 door (french) type, I can put in an extra large pizza box.

Pick the one that suits your criteria or preference apart from side-by-side ie. 5-star rating, features such as the interior tray layout ie. compartment for butter and eggs with transparent lid etc., exterior looks.

My Samsung side-by-side fridge bought 14 years ago at RM5k+ is working flawlessly without any repairs. Reliable. In my apartment i have a Panasonic fridge which is less than 1 year old. Still quite new so nothing to report on.

Personally i think any fridge would do fine, even the Hisense which is less known compared to the big brands. If you want to stay safe it might be a better choice to pick the Samsung, Panasonic or other Japanese makes.

Thanks for suggestion. I do have Panasonic fridge and its doing great for almost 3 years now. No issue. Issue is to find a reasonable price with good looking design side by side. Will try to find stores with Pana side by side if theres any.
Side by side Samsung version as per photo is quite narrow. But the Hisense is not. The top part is not divided. You can open both door for whole storage wide.

14 years. Wow! Well my first preference is side by side since im gonna have an island, which will limit the door clearance. My panasonic now 3 years+ and still working good.

Can I say if big stores sell the brand and giving warranty for up to 5 years, they are quite confident the brand doesnt have many complaints from customers?

I read its called american style door since it have 4 doors. French have 3 which the bottom slide out. Anyway, doesnt matter the name as long as it can be opened side by side individually.

Went to the shop again today and promo is over. Both is 3k++. Now design and inner compartment width like u said is gonna be a huge decider.

Don't no what is the advantage side by side fridge.

It is a waste space fridge. Narrow inside and wide outside.

Your point on side by side I can agree on. But the T shape inside type is another story. Still got huge compartment on top.

The top side is french door and not call side by side. It is a hybrid.

Side by side is like that TS pic Samsung. Whole left is freezer and right is fridge.

The center divider taken up the space and waste the wide space of the fridge. With both have drawer that also taken (the slider+drawer material+gap) up the space + the divider = that compartment become narrow.

That also cause your kitchen cabinet shorter in width.

I didnt chose yet. I was considering either side by side or multidoor.

i have kitchen island in front of the fridge. So prefer to have a big fridge with smaller door clearance. Prefer to have. Not a big issue.

Yes it is. Either this one or hisense multidoor. I forgot to take a photo of hisense one. Price around 3k as well but multidoor and white glass front finishing. Look really nice with kitchen cabinet glass door.

just an advice, get a proper brand. My own experience... fell for LG side by side 5 years ago because it’s white with pink touch bla bla bla (oh woman...!). And then the refrigerator keeps on making sound. Hahaha the repair man come and go till I gave up and throw that fridge after 3 months of trying. But still never learned, believe the marketing sweet-sweet talk.. fell with another LG white glass multidoor. And the problem was it’s on and off by itself and not cold. Repair man continued came and go, I gave up after 4 months and crosse my heart will never ever buy LG product. Their washing machine also sucks...

More door mean more insulation wall.

Pro is you waste less energy since you open necessary comparent only; unless u open all try to find something.

Con is less space available.

Totally agree with you ozak.. At 1st so tempting to buy side by side...style wise...and freezer space is bigger..but the cold space is smaller and the mid wall inside made the fridge look small inside... End of the survey..finally bought 2 door normal fridge with big capacity.. Toshiba 710L less then 3K... Very happy now with more energy saving inverter..
