Hi Guys,

Where can I get antidepressants such as Sertraline or Fluoxetine in Malaysia? Do I need to have a prescription from psychiatrist or I can get it over-the-counter?
Please help me, those who have experienced anxiety, OCD and depressive disorder.

Thanks.

Have you gone through a professional medical assessment?
*
No at the moment. I wonder how much it cost to visit a psychiatrist/therapist.

There are varieties of antidepressants in the market and they all affect differently to every single individual. It would be wise to consult a psychiatrist first before taking meds.

sertraline or other selective serotonin reuptake ihibitors (SSRI) etc are usually prescription drugs but in some pharmacies that are not strict, u can get them without papers, especially sertraline. it is relatively safe compared to say amitriptyline.

do consult a qualified neurologist, also check your sodium level after taking for a week if they prescribe sertraline to u

Thanks for the info dude

The cost varies and government bodies/ NGOs are more affordable. Private institutions charges several hundred ringgit per session depending on the psychologist/ institution.

You can refer to here for a list of Mental Health institutions (from government to private, NGOs etc):

Suggest you call up several centres near you and check their price, services etc before going.

Firstly, are you diagnosed by a doctor to have anxiety etc? Or just self diagnosis?
Secondly, it's controlled medicine.

I'm on Luvox for 12 years and counting and i got it from gov hospital for basically free.
*
Self diagnosed.

Are you staying in Penang? If so, can you suggest me gov one?

Here to add on, Jake is right. There are some pharmacies that sells older SSRI's like Zoloft without prescription. Depending on TS's location.
But TS, I have to emphasize here. Anti-depressants are NOT happy pills. They do not enhance your happiness in any way, and are only meant for long term therapy. In certain cases, patients who take them feel worse due to the side effects etc. and suicide is actually a counter-indication of these drugs.
That is why, just don't. Unless you're prepared to have a psychiatrist monitor and manage. Counselling is a more important step in this stage you're in, do you have anyone to talk to?
*
I do know it's not a happy pills but I want to get better. It's tiring being sad all the time. Sometimes, even worse that my mood swings rapidly. After that, I regret 😩

I know it's risky but I need to try whether it's working for me or not.

For government you need a referral letter, either from your own GP or a government clinic. Then you have to make an appointment at the government specialist center.
What Hahn suggested is more practical, since these drugs are long term. You don't just take them on and off, most people take for years and it is very very expensive if you go the private route. That together with some counselling can help, though the process takes time. Weeks, months even before you feel better

Another "cure" would be through faith, if you know what I mean. Everything you are feeling is relative, sure you are suffering but physically it can't kill you unless you let it. So just hang in there.

What's the worst that could happen?
*
If from gov, how much will it cost?

Yes, I do know faith will be the cure. I did try my best but sometimes we can't avoid making mistakes and sins.

It doesn't hurt me physically, but emotionally is worse than physically hurt. Constantly battling invisible pain. I'm not worried much about physical pain because I'm sure I'm not gonna hurt myself. Still have faith tho.

For gov i forgot for 1st time registration but for repeated case, each time you go see the doctor you just pay RM5 and the medication is basically free. But in a typical gov way, you have to wait quite a while since there are lots of people with so many cases but i think it's worth it.

Try to distract your mind. I myself is kind of going through midlife crisis now lol. And i live alone and being an introvert while also having social anxiety, it's pretty tough and i think way too many things. But life goes on and tomorrow still comes. So hang in there.

I'll try in near future 🙂
