Sehubungan itu Lajnah Pengguna PAS Kawasan Sungai Petani bersama NGO Masyarakat Prihatin telah menyerahkan memorandum bantahan kepada pihak pasaraya itu, kelmarin.

Serahan memorandum tersebut telah disampaikan sendiri oleh Yang DiPertua PAS Sungai Petani, Ustaz Ahmad Fadzli Hashim yang juga Adun Pantai Merdeka di pasaraya itu.

Beliau diiringi Pengerusi Lajnah Pengguna PAS Sungai Petani, Abd Salim Alias Khan dan Pengerusi NGO Masyarakat Prihatin, Ustaz Mohd Haikal bin Abd Muthalib.

Menurut Abd Salim, pihaknya menyedari bahawa perlesenan Kerajaan Persekutuan membenarkan premis pasaraya untuk menjual beer atau minuman keras dalam tin dan botol.

"Pihak kami juga bukan menghalang penjualan alkohol di premis pasaraya sekiranya ianya mematuhi akta, tetapi penjualan tersebut mesti dengan kawalan ketat serta notis yang mencukupi kepada orang Islam.

"Penjualan secara terbuka boleh mengundang keresahan kepada orang Islam. Dalam konteks ini, pasaraya Tesco ada menyediakan satu ruangan 'Tidak Halal', maka adalah lebih sesuai sekiranya minuman keras diletakkan di ruangan tersebut.

"Agar pengguna Islam terutamanya tidak terkeliru, ini juga bagi menghormati orang Melayu yang beragama Islam. Oleh itu, pihak kami membantah sekeras-kerasnya penjualan arak secara terbuka di premis ini," ujarnya.

Beliau turut memetik Enakmen Undang-undang Kesalahan Jenayah Syariah yang berkaitan perkara tersebut dan mendesak pihak Tesco menyelesaikan masalah ini dengan segera.
