Currently this is my old rig setup.

Processor : Intel i5-4590 @ 3.30
Motherboard : Asrock H81M-DG4
Ram : 8GB X 2 Kingston DDR3
Graphic card: Zotac Geforce GTX 580 Amp
Power supply : Seasonic S12II-620W 80+Bronze
Hardisk : Kingston SA400 120GB SSD (OS)
Western Digital Caviar 1TB
Monitor : Running on 2 19" monitor. 1 acer & 1 china brand.

I'm mostly doing graphic, 3d modelling & rendering stuff such as CAD, 3DMax, Rhino, ArchiCad, Revit, Sketchup, Lumion, Artlantis, VRay,iRender, Photoshop etc. Rarely play games which most of the time only CS:GO & Battlefield.

I've got fund to upgrade my PC but would prefer not to spend too much by changing the whole system.

Since i've got a LGA 1150 socket motherboard, so i'm thinking to upgrade to i7 4770 (non K).

With all the setup, is it worth to upgrade? Will it do any difference for my work?

Or any suggestion that that can make the performance better without me changing the whole system.

Thank you for you your feedback. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

No budget?

i7-4770/4790 is only worth it if it is RM400. Or

AMD Ryzen 2700X - 1399
MSI B450-A Pro - 399
Kingston 8GB DDR4-2666 X2 - 498
Galax GTX 1060 6GB EXOC - 1099

Double the cores of i7-4770 and faster RAM. If no budget, Ryzen 5 2600 still 2 more cores than i7-4770. I smell Kingston A400 which is crap for primary disk as well. Lumion also needs decent graphic card.

Yeah not much budget..thats why only prefer to upgrade the processor at the mean time.
Since you touch on graphic card..is it better to upgrade the graphic card & just stick to the processor?

If you dont have graphic card, yes. That is only if you use Lumion a lot.

If you use other than Lumion a lot, go for CPU upgrade.

So far the pc runs ok with older version of Lumion which i will stick to them. Most of the time will use v-ray.

rendering job base on real core, HT (hyperthreading) just help 1~5% most
so it's not worty for you to upgrade...
ryzen2700 really is your best bang on upgrade currently,
4590 upgrade to 4770 only boost 10~15% max
suggest you save the money and wait a little more during rendering. sweat.gif

I've never experience using AMD for my work before. Do the Ryzens perform well compare to the intel xeon or i7?

Lets say im keeping the DDR3 ram (which i have 32G in hand) & graphic card (which i think still support my work).
Any suggestion for motherboard and processor which may support both ram & graphic card?
Maybe migrate from intel to AMD would not be a problem.
Looking at budget around RM1k.
And hoping will get significant performance upgrade like 50%.

DDR3 is not compatible with today's motherboard. Core i7-4960X and Intel X79 is the best you can get for DDR3 but it is still not worth it. RAM prices dropped a lot. 32GB DDR4 is at RM1k now.

How about Xeon. Those 1150 socket like Xeon 1231. Will there be any difference?

Yes, Xeon E3-1230 V3 = i7-4770.

https://asrock.com/mb/Intel/H81M-DG4/#CPU

Your motherboard also supports it.

You might want to look for Xeon 1270 V3 from link below?

Xeon 1270

CPU processing power will be better than your current processor with HT on it.

The speed delta to be gained is not worth it

Your old rig is perfectly capable
