It's fast. But memory hungry. 3 tabs eating up to 194mb memory. Can someone else confirm this.

I'm using it rite now..but imo not that quick..i believe my firefox is much faster than my safari and the font type is not feasible on my eyes(foggish).I gotta fix a few things before i get it up and running. But overall i think its quite okay for a beta.

And for the memory hungry issue,i've made some comparison, i didn't get any figure up to 190, but this page consumes about 44mb on safari and 40 mb on firefox. Its slightly more but not that critical i guess.

Edit : After a few more testing, i found crashes and error pop ups with the browser. Well i'll leave it at that because its beta. But for now i'll just forgo using this one.Maybe next time.Firefox still reign supreme.

The new bada** mot***f***er of browsers.
Totally impressed with lightspeed. They need to fix up some memory reclaiming problems though.

After that, it will be THE browser to use, especially since Firefox's desperately trying to become bloatware and IE isn't trying to be anything. Opera's also in a sad state of trying to be everything but failing at 75% of them.

Anyone tried it yet. I am using it now and HOLY SHIT its fast. Faster than opera and firefox. If this is only beta, I can't wait for the final one. Compared to IE7 its like comparing Proton to a Ferarri.

mac (or in this case safari) actually renders font differently compared to windows, making it look a bit blur
i dont like it though. i guess it's a matter of preference.

anyway lotsa ppl talking about the font rendering in mac vs windows.
this is one from joel spoelsky

its interface makes me fall in love with safari biggrin.gif~
altough still has many bugs.
and the main problem is, many developer only "test drive" and program their web pages with/for IE or firefox. so, when we open it on safari, its just appeared on our browser not properly.

regarding on some articles , mac user also face some prob with safari like windows users on IE. so don't demanding to much its better than everything.

Safari Beta 3.0.1:

QUOTE
Three days after releasing Safari 3.0, Apple has issued its first patch of the beta software. The 3.0.1 update, released early Thursday morning, fixes three flaws in the browser including bugs that were discovered earlier this week by researchers Thor Larholm and Aviv Raff.

http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/06/14/...-patched_1.html

The updated version can be downloaded via here or can be updated using the installed Apple Software Update application.

So far I feel this is the browser which can take on Opera for speed. Let's hope the final version would iron out those bugs.

Just tested this thingy (latest version):-

1. I think the font smoothing is better than ClearType, must set to Light though.

2. People says it loads webpages faster, but I think Firefox + AdBlock Plus is way faster especially in ad-laden sites.

3. Can't use proxy server, the option is grayed out. Will give some slack because this is beta.

4. Crashes more often, but this is beta so will give some slack too.

5. Takes more memory than Firefox (even with plugins), take as much as IE7. Apple needs to cut down memory consumption here. At least it is not bloated like that god-dammit iTunes.

6. I hate grey skin, should at least allow people to choose orange or pink. Hey if Vista can do it for FF, why not Safari?

Standard page loading test with opera, firefox2(tete009 SSE version), and safari. all 3 browser are up to date version.

the test is done as suggested. the html that use for benchmark is saved to harddisk.

Safari is the fastest browser to render CSS, rendering time is below 200ms, opera is about 920ms, firefox2(tete009 SSE version) ~770ms, ie7 ~1500ms biggrin.gif

Table rendering test, safari still is the winner, followed by opera, firefox2 and ie7 is the slowest doh.gif

still got some other benchmark havent run, too lazy to post screenshot yawn.gif
